My birthday is the 18th of February, considering the time difference between Australia and America, my birthday present will be the bewilderment of millions of old and/or technologically inept Americans; and the subsequent tech support and abuse phone calls. Anyone got popcorn?

I think the coupons are for $40. At least that's what the ads on public broadcasting say. As for quality, well, DTV works like all things digital... either you're getting a signal or you're not. It's not like analog where you can sort of kind of get a picture. With digital if you're not getting enough of a signal to show the picture you're not going to see the picture. So people that were getting 3 good channels and 5 crappy ones probably aren't going to see the 5 crappy ones anymore unless they buy a bigger antennae... which is kind of lame. The over-the-air HD channels that you get for free are nice though...

And they may only get 2 'good' ones.
The whole thing is lame. Forcing people to move to digital is just a subsidy for broadcaster, Digital box makers, and TV manufacturers. Gah.
Plus I got my 40 dollar off card* but no one had Digital converters. Then when they got them, mine had expired. The good news being, when the cards run out, the price will drop to 20 bucks anyways. I mean there REALLY simple to make.
*Yeah I don't like it but my tax dollars went into the subsidy, so I am going to use it..well, in this case NOT use it.
