How US Schools' Culture Stifles Math Achievement

The New York Times reports on a recent study that shows the US fails to encourage academic talent as a culture.'"There is something about the culture in American society today which doesn't really seem to encourage men or women in mathematics," said Michael Sipser, the head of M.I.T.'s math department. "Sports achievement gets lots of coverage in the media. Academic achievement gets almost none."' While we've suspected that the US might be falling behind academically, this study shows that it is actually due to cultural factors that are devaluing the success of our students. I suspect there's a flaw in the US cultural system that prevents achievement on the academic front from being perceived as valuable. Could anyone suggest a patch for this bug or is this cause for a rewrite?"

is it time to get real yet? Get the fucking professional based on giant macho freaks team sports farm leagues OUT of the public school system. Let the NFL, NBA, whatever to fully fund their own mini leagues completely separate from the tax payer funded schools if that is what they want to do. End the subsidy, end the brainwashing of little kids. Let them use 100% their own funding, go find land, build stadiums, all of that, but get them away from impressionable school kids, at least in the schools, where they are force addicted that bread and circuses nonsense, so they grow up to be adults and they think that drunken hooting idiocy is normal. It's not, it's Neanderthal, that's why we have mostly Neanderthal adults now, that is considered normal. It's Abnormal. This is de-evolution at work. Once you stop being addicted, take a look at a stadium full of fans, it's a bunch of baboons dressed in clothes hooting!
Next, get the FCC to stop local news broadcasters from devoting a full THIRD of non commercial time on the local news to &%^%^ing sports. Put that shit on pay per view cable where it belongs. These are the public airwaves, those industries make enough money that they don't need to suck down valuable spectrum to such an extent. Damn free advertising daily, that's crazy! Those sports leagues make freaking billions, they pay individual giant violence freaks millions, so make them pay 100% for their own channels and advertising. Make the business and make the sports addicts pay for all of that elsewhere, get it off the public OTA airwaves at news time at a minimum.
No other industry out there gets one third local news time free advertising daily. It's free advertising, they just call it news. And get away with it.
It's blatant propaganda for forced addiction, and they brainwash little kids into it in the schools and damn if they don't grow up into adults and still not realize they have been brainwashed into being addicted to it.
And I'm speaking from experience, I grew up same as everyone else, got that force fed to me in school, participated as far as I could, playing and watching, all the way to adulthood, one day, in my 30's then, I was trying to discuss some state politics issue at work...jeebus NOT A SINGLE PERSON THERE knew jack shit about anything at all with regards to that, but they ALL new full details about all the recent games, the names of the players, the scores etc. It was a revelation to me, I realize I had almost gotten sucked in for life. I quit watching and going to games and being interested on the spot, that day, that was it, I got embarrassed for...for everyone. Took a little while but DAMN it was obvious then what a powerful propaganda tool it is for the elite, they keep their baboon and drunken serfs dumbed down, drunk and hooting at big stupid Neanderthal gladiators instead of paying attention to the daily ripoffs and scams they pull on the population. Just listen to people's conversations sometime, watch the percentages of the time they spend in casual conversation on drivel, they talk about hollyweird drivel, screeching pop music or grunting hip hop crap stars drivel, pro sports drivel, etc, then they might know something about real news but for the most part it is barely surface level, and a lot of people don't even know that. Go ahead, try it at work some place or at other gatherings. They don't know where other nations are on a globe, can't name a single politician past who the president is, know nothing about any of the critical issues, and etc. Crazy, and a big part of that is forced addiction to team sports from even before they go to kindergarten, then all through public school and into college then out into the real world.
