Discuss the US Presidential Election & Health Care

Yesterday we discussed the war and how foreign policy will matter in your decision next Tuesday. Today our series of election discussion pieces continues with Health Care. With an obesity epidemic, a failing economy, and ballooning health care costs, which candidate has the best answers to making sure that Americans are able to stay healthy without America being bankrupted in the process?

Really? Maybe you might want to check again. For the most part, the market (Dow, S&P, NASDAQ) are right where they were 10 years ago. Not exactly the kind of "growth" I would hope for over a 10-year span.

You must be bitter for not choosing a job that gives you such great health coverage.

Yes, a whopping 2% or so depending on the index you look at. Which when adjusted for inflation is down about 25%.
Your 401k advisor loves to talk about how the stock market historically averages 10% per year. How Wonderful! Except that it departs so bad from the mean that there are rarely any years when it comes close to ACTUALLY making 10%. In fact there are DECADES at a time where it is flat or loses money, followed by decades of growth much higher than 10%. I would recommend that you now put your money in the market unless you watch it very closely or you have 50 years to wait to ensure a profit.

I'm not fundamentally opposed to a system that uses money and markets, but we shouldn't construct a system, as we have, where market forces work against us rather than for us.

The current system is corrupt. The whole thing, not just health care. We've seen how taxpayers were ripped off by the global financial swindle. And we've seen the system's response, which is to give taxpayers' money to the banks. The bankers swindled billions of people out of trillions of dollars, and instead of going to jail, they're getting a bailout. The whole system is corrupt.

But there is a loophole. The system lets churches operate exempt from tax. In other words, churches aren't part of the system. A famous science fiction writer worked this out, and started a church. That church is now very rich and well-known, and doesn't pay any tax.

So if you're sick of the government and the rest of the system ripping you off day after day, start your own church. Invite your friends to join. Instead of paying tax to the government, donate your pay to your church. Hold a religious meeting once a week or so. Invite your friends to turn up. Have free beer and pizza, or whatever your church thinks is a suitable activity.

This works because the system is corrupt. They can't come and bust your church and make you pay tax, because there are too many powerful vested interests who don't want to see churches paying tax. Other rich and powerful churches will help you (as long as you don't spend all your time bad-mouthing them). If you can get donations to your church to be tax-deductible, you've got it made.

It's probably better to have many small churches rather than a few big ones. You only need a few people to get started. Make sure to invite some lawyers and accountants to join.

What are the laws for starting churches in various countries? It worked for a famous science fiction writer, it could work for anybody!
