GTA IV DLC Announced
Rockstar Games recently announced upcoming downloadable content for Grand Theft Auto IV, entitled The Lost and Damned. It's due out on February 17th, and it focuses on a member of a Liberty City biker gang, rather than Niko Bellic. Joystiq has some early screenshots. "In the original game, Niko crossed paths with The Lost several times. This time, Niko has only a bit part, [Rockstar's Dan Houser] says. 'The story is not directly impacted by decisions you took in the main game,' he says. But 'tons of details and mysteries from the main story get explained, so it will add a lot of color to the main story.'"
Was all psyched up for a new game in a new city...kind of like Vice City...but set in Washington DC...
Too bad it's Xbox 360 only. :(
English is not my first language, so cut me some slack -: Om du kan lasa det har sa kan du Svenska
It's soulskill. Guy's an idiot.
Pathedic?
Your spelling is derrible.
It may be pathetic, but it's not surprising. Microsoft paid Rockstar to make the first few rounds of dlc xbox360 exclusive.
Microsoft paid 50$ million for the exclusive rights to two large DLC packs for GTA, which is fine.
The thing is, I think a lot of people don't realise that for all the open ended gameplay for GTA the series has evolved over the years to being great single player storyline focused games.
Saints Row 1 and 2 are following the old GTA style of crazy gameplay with a loose story, whereas GTA4 was a fairly good story with brilliant presentation and a wonderful world.
I'm a complete and utter GTA fanboy, I loved GTA:SA and GTA4 and I purchased multiple copies (multiple systems) but I have absoloutely no desire for this DLC.
I personally find DLC just cheapens most games and makes them feel like a product rather than an experience, like a book or movie.
Would you pay for an extra 5 minutes of Star Wars (Lucas tried to offer it to us, again most of us hated it)
DLC has it's place but the only DLC for GTA I'd be interested in would be a full, complete expansion pack - ideally a new island and at least 20 or 30 SP missions plus some characters.
Frankyly I'd rather the dev time be spent on a GTA4 - II or a GTA 5 game.
Niko Bellic is only a "bit part" in this up-coming game???
In the words of Niko, "I'll rip your fucking heart out!".
So this expands on the story of GTA? Wait there is a story? I never got past killing hookers and jacking cars I guess.

I don't see how you're not, acting all childish on Slashdot.

Ok mod. I get that this is flamebait, but the OP is not a frickin' troll for their "Game consoles are for kids"? Talk about unevened. Both added no content to the topic.
Also, try telling that to my dad who absoluetly f'ing loved a little game called "Desert Strike" back in the day.
Anyways, DLC is a double edged sword. You can farm it out and hope it gets a good job done. You develop inhouse and lose production time on other big titles.

Are we supposed to feel sorry for you because you bet on the wrong horse? Jeez, grow up.

I don't care about MGS4. It's pathedic that they made it only for the PS3 and not the 360.
Oh wait, I do care and I do want, that's why I made this post.
If you wanted the GTA4 DLC you should've got a 360, just as when the craving for MGS4 becomes too much I shall purchase a PS3.

GTAIV sucks. I bought it, played it for a few days then counted the days to Saints Row II. I believe the torch has passed in this genre - Saints has it, GTA lost it.

Fuck you, buddy.
Once you accept everything is a product it makes it all easier. It becomes part of the artistic form, in fact, and seeing how the producers work within the constraints of it being a product becomes part of the charm of whatever work you're looking at.
If you want something different then stick to "high art" in galleries. They have films, music / sounds and I bet it wont be too long before there are games that exist purely as art, that is to say they have no purpose other than their own existence (which is, I think, the only really universal characteristic of art).

What's worse is that we knew the game was fixed over 2 years ago. Rockstar announced that Xbox 360 had "dibs" on downloadable content for GTA4 around the time that the PS3 was released. So, anyone who bought a PS3 wanting GTA4 with the extras was pretty far out of a loop that included, well, most gamers who were interested in GTA4.
There's nothing more pathetic than an inter-game-system flamewar.
It's one thing to make a game that only works on one platform. It's another thing for a company to pay to make additions to a multi-platform game exclusive for their platform.
I would even qualify "oh, it's just an opiate of the masses" as a fairly childish statement as well.
Let's hope they will leave the cellphone feature out of this one. In GTA IV, you get girlfriends, friends and "business associates" as the story evolves. They get added to the contact list on your cellphone, which the main character brings with him at all times. Occasionally, friends will call you to hang out, in which case you take them bowling, drinking, playing eight-ball, darts or other minigames.
The problem is that occasionally in Rockstar terms means every goddamn 10 minutes! It's so annoying I've just played GTA IV for four hours and then left it. To make matters worse, you get penalty points if you hang up on them.
Meh, I think you could probably get a scientific research paper to back the claim. This is slashdot after all, or were you just trying to assume I was a Jr. High arm chair sociologist?

That's an illogical statement. Microsoft effectively funded the creation of the content. This is no different to Sony using their large share in Square Enix to hold back the release of FFXIII on the 360. Square only changed their mind on this as the gap between the PS3 and 360 stopped shrinking (that gap is stuck at around 8mill atm, it was closing until Microsoft did their most recent price drop and is now widening again) and it became obvious the 360 sells that many more games (around 2 - 3 times as many per user compared to the PS3). Similarly it makes business sense to release MGS4 on the 360 too because so many people would buy it so there's clearly pressure or an incentive from Sony of some kind there to prevent it.
Nintendo probably engages in it least because games for the Wii controllers aren't usually easily adaptable and they have a massively successful 1st party lineup anyway. To suggest it's something only Microsoft is guilty of however simply stinks of nothing but jealousy, particularly as the practice of pressuring exclusive games and content clearly isn't unique to Microsoft.
