Gen Con Goes Up For Sale
Trask writes "LivingDice has documents indicating that Gen Con LLC is up for sale. Additionally, there is an offer pending which could close by the end of the year. This may finally put an end to the uncertainty caused by Gen Con's chapter 11 filing and the recently dismissed Lucasfilm lawsuit."
Gen Com purchase offer rejected
Seems as if someone was trying to destabilize things.

advantages does this convention offer me, over say, a train, which I could also easily afford?
Who the fuck is Gen Con?
Seriously, I'm a nerd and I've never even heard "Gen Con".
Soulskill, you fail.
When a company has filed a Chapter 11 they have to examine every offer to be bought out.
If GM files Chapter 11 and some idiot offers them $10 for the entire company, then GM has to treat it as an offer and consider it.
Coming from a local Indy resident this is huge news GenCon has been a part of my life for quite awhile now and all I can hope is that someone buys it who cares about D&D and CTG's. Most of my friends are very involved with this convention my best friend volunteers and was won second place last year in the final FMA tourney. All I can hope is that if there are buyers they will remember what GenCon is about and keep true to all the gamers that enjoy it so much.
not a video gaming convention. Grow a beard.
Yeah!! My man, rms! Tap that pixie, brutha!
And who says geeks ain't got game??
I saw the "illegal" tag and have been waiting to see a post about why. Does it have something to do with ch. 11 reorganization?
When the axe came to the forest, the trees said, "Look out - the handle was once one of us."
OK, my first thought was that the /. post didn't even hint at who/what GenCon is or does. Then I thought, "be fair--they wouldn't do it for SCO or any other company that is part of the culture. Go RTFA, and you'll find out."
Well, I RTFA, and it doesn't even hint at it. A paragraph on /. is one thing, but writing an entire article about a company being bought without even mentioning what the company does or did? Sad.

There, that might help...
Gen Con is a Gaming Convention held in North America and Europe. They host the events and bring in exhibitors. In some cases it's a chance for the public to meet people in the game industry.
I've never been to one of these. I tend to miss the dates when I'm interested and not have the money when I'm informed of the events.
