God of War 3 Gameplay Unveiled
Over the weekend, Sony used Spike's Video Game Awards to release new information and a trailer for God of War 3, the final installment of the God of War series that is planned for sometime in 2009. The press release described a new game engine which brings "significant strides in giving players the realistic feel of actually being on the battlegrounds. With texture resolutions being quadrupled since God of War 2, God of War 3 will feature fluid, life-like characters, as well as dynamic lighting effects, a robust weapon system, and world-changing scenarios that will truly bring unmistakable realism to Kratos' fateful quest. Players will have a chance to join battles on a grand scale with many more enemies on-screen and be able to interact with levels like never before." Gamecyte notes that the news contradicts early rumors that the game might be an MMO.
Oh... you thought you were going to get paid? No no... You'll be paying us to test our new engine.
Say... you should buy a new pc too. Your old one is too slow for our new dynamic lighting effects, robust weapon system, and world-changing scenarios.
You don't mind do you?
DRM? Oh that... um.. yeah.. we don't call it that around here anymore. DRM is bad. Now we just call it the playability access virus. It won't hurt you. Much.
I think someone needs to remind Sony's marketing department that God of War is about mythological characters...
If you aren't angry, you aren't paying attention.
Yeah, one where you're playing a godlike character who can kill dozens in one attack...
Justice is the sheep getting arrested while an impartial judge declares the vote void.
What gets passed as "gameplay footage" these days is saddening at best. The clip shows assumingly in-game animations, yes, but there is no actual playing going on. To save those who can't watch this the trouble, the video just shows off shiny new shaders and high res texturing detail (which is, admittedly, mildly alluring). Kratos is doing the typical moves found in God of War, God of War II, God of War: Chains of Olympus, ...
I'm excited for the game, most definitely, but this trailer completely misses anything interesting a prospective player or long-time fan might want to see, like the mythological beasts and characters and engaging story that the game series has brought to us in the past.
Trailer rating: "You missed the point. Come back after class to try again."
Here's the gametrailers link, if anyone has trouble seeing the kotaku one. I like how the cinematics look, but I'm more interested in seeing how the in-game footage is.
This is a console game.
David Jaffe made some comments about the game looking mind-blowing a few months ago. He updated his comment recently to say that what we saw on the VGA's was not what he was talking about and that he still stands by his statement. So... we'll see.
that's it? Seriously? Sure it's pretty for the 10 seconds you actually get to see anything.
Call it a teaser trailer, not a damn gameplay video...sheesh
If the buffalo shots in the trailer are any indication of the final game, I think we're going to have a whole new generation of fans who like gladiator movies.
