Blu-ray Update Sent To User Via Credit Card Records

wmoyes writes "Back in September I ran into a Best Buy store to buy a Samsung BD-P2550 Blu-ray player. I didn't give the clerk my name, telephone number, or address, just my debit card. The player has sat happily in my living room without ever being networked or registered. Today I was shocked to find a package waiting for me at home from Best Buy — inside was a firmware update CD for the player. I used to think Windows Update was scary, but Samsung's update service tracked me to my house using the mag stripe from my bank card. Has this happened to any other Blu-ray owners?" Or is there a simpler explanation?

Your mom probably filled in the product warrantee card and sent it in.

    P.S. She's fat.

Putting information in the hands of the public is sort of like putting Al Franklin in the senate. One knows that a shoe is about to drop.

Thank god it's nowhere near as horrible as putting GW Bush in the White House. One knows that a war or two are about to happen, the constitution will be shredded, the economy will tank and the poor will be robbed to pay the rich when that happens.

You probably think that repugs like that moron Fred Grandy from the Love Boat or that fuckwit Sonny Bono were great senators. Or do you prefer outright criminals and sexual deviants like about one third of the repug senators?

You should do some research on Franken and you'd find out that at least Franken (unlike the 3 repugs I mentioned), has a functioning brain and cares about the country.

This is the reason why I use my CC all the damn time - I have nothing to hide in my day to day life. If I ever did have something to hide, cash is still an option today... though it is getting harder and harder to be completely cash based when traveling. Let them see my normal patterns, if I'm hiding, I'll be doing something different anyway.

Oh, and when you want to get really paranoid - think about DOT (stop-light) cameras and OCR of your license plate numbers...
