Google Releases Chrome 2.0 Pre-Beta

Nick Fletcher writes "Just a few short months after the initial release, Google has released a pre-beta version of Google Chrome 2.0. It sports a few new features including form auto-completion, full-page zoom, 'profiles,' and Greasemonkey support. It seems the only notable feature would be profiles, which allows users to separate out their homepage, history, and bookmarks on a per user or category basis. It seems Google is still playing catch-up but they're definitely moving at a pace unknown to some of their competition. The full list of new features is available in the release notes."

Downloaded the first public release of Chrome, installed Privoxy for adblocking and never turned back. Chrome utterly annihilates Firefox in realworld performance. No more have to constantly quit of the damn webbrowser because it is constantly accumulating stray memory and left over Javascript crap.

Chrome is as lighting quick a week after constant and heavy use as it is the first few minutes of starting the app. It has been an even better feeling than years ago dumping IE for Firefox.

Whatever features continue to get added are nothing but gravy now.

You still use that technological turd Firefox because you at one time latched onto it as something where you felt 'kewl' while those 'lamers' were still running that piece of crap IE.

Now you're the lamer still running that piece of crap Firefox.

Such is the great circle of life.

I remember trying to get into coding with Firefox and it ended up being a nightmare and just not worth the effort mess. And the times I've come across Firefox devs in forums they really came across as outright pricks.

Everyone remembers of course having to listen to Firefox devs sitting around in Slashdot stories about the horrible Firefox memory leaks ripping into people with the 'it's not a memory leak, it's a feature' bullshit.

Google's code is of incredible quality from what I've seen so far. And it is incredibly easy to get in and start working on the project. And the Google engineers have shown themselves to be both brilliant and friendly. So far nothing but positive impressions.

What the fuck google. Finish GTALK, you know the one you run on your computer? The fucking Gtalk in Gmail through web browser gets all of the attention while the shitty desktop version that has the nice simple clean ui, gets NO DEVELOPEMENT.

Ok... so google did put out a Gtalk desktop version that is called something like "secret super duper google version only for you desperate users version"...

    But it blows!

Gtalk should own the IM world. AIM sucks (ad ridden fagware), trillian is bloated moose shit, miranda is a stripped down mess of plugins that does nothing right, and pidgin... pidgin is the fucking saddest peice of shit i've ever used next to itunes.

The world is in need of a good im client and google might have had it, if they kept going but google doesnt really care about finishing software do they?

You are not only wrong, you are also an idiot. 'Rights' have nothing to do with this and people who use the word 'rights' in discussions like this need their rights stripped away for improper use of the word to garner a reaction. While is great that you pay for your internet connection and you own your computer, I'd be willing to bet you think every website should give you service for free with nothing in return. I guess I don't have to bet, you certainly feel that way from your post.

So, what exactly are your 'rights' good for when there are no websites to visit because they never made any money to pay for the bandwidth they use or the servers they sit on? While there is nothing to do with morality involved in this discussion, there is a little common sense that you and those that share your ignorance don't get. Going to a bathroom while the commercial is on isn't modifying the content provided and you will likely still hear the commercial and as such if it actually interests you, you may watch it next time. When flipping through a magazine in the rack you don't cost the supplier any money as you put it back, you also are likely to see an interesting advertisement anyway. Same thing with billboards. By stripping the ads from your web browsing you completely prevent A) the possibility that you could experience something in your life outside your little fishbowl and B) the possibility, regardless of how remote, for you to indirectly support the website you are visiting.

Now if you'd like to tell me about how you donate to all the websites you visit to help offset their costs I'd love to hear it, even though we'll all know its complete bullshit. You can be all high and mighty and feel special because you block ads, and thats good for you. But you aren't special, special was those who were blocking ads before it was 'download extension for firefox'. You're also an idiot as you're doing nothing but make those website admins question the viability of those websites in the first place.

I'm not telling you to view the ads. As you said, what you do on your computer is your business, but seriously, get over the "holier than thou"/"I'm a bad ass" cause I use a firefox extension thing. Anyone over the age of 15 (mentally, not just physically) stopped thinking it was cool a long time ago. Don't take it personal, this statement applies to the original post as well, you're both twits based on what you've posted.
