Why TV Lost
theodp writes "Over the past 20 years, there's been much speculation about what the convergence of computers and TV would ultimately look like. Paul Graham says that we now know the answer: computers. 'Convergence' is turning out to essentially be 'replacement.' Why did TV lose? Graham identifies four forces: 1. The Internet's open platform fosters innovation at hacker speeds instead of big company speeds. 2. Moore's Law worked its magic on Internet bandwidth. 3. Piracy taught a new generation of users it's more convenient to watch shows on a computer screen. 4. Social applications made everybody from grandmas to 14-year-old girls want computers — in a three-word-nutshell, Facebook killed TV."

Read your journal: fuckin' genius. I wish they'd hurry up and fix the meta-moderation so we can help put an end to moronic moderation, like the above (currently your post stands at -1 Offtopic, when it should be +5 Funny).
From the grand-parent:
It's either sock-puppetry, or he actually wrote a few posts that were informative/funny/insightful, given Slashdot's moderation system, which is more likely?
For anyone wondering, to get mod points on Slashdot you have to have fulfill a lot of conditions, for example: you must have excellent karma; you must not have visited the site for a set period of time (I usually get mod points after going on holiday); you must use the mod points within a certain period of time; Slash also seems to go into 'downright suspicious' mode if two accounts are on the same IP. It is therefore, pretty bloomin' difficult to sock puppet for mod points on Slashdot. I haven't studied it myself, but the code is available, have a look and judge for yourselves.
Actually, stupid, if you read relevant laws, many countries also have legal definitions of piracy that include slave trade (not necessarily involving "ships on the high seas") and copyright infringement (initially involving only books, long before digital media even existed). Whoever modded you Insightful is as fucking dumb as you are. The argument that piracy must involve "ships is the high seas" is tired and stupid, as are the people who generate this foolish measure of bullshit.
I can get the FOX affiliate station in Fort Wayne, Indiana, fine over analog but not at all over digital.
You're welcome.
