Dell's Adamo Goes After MacBook Air
MojoKid writes "Adamo, pronounced 'A-dahm-o,' means 'to fall in love with' in Latin. Dell is certainly hoping you'll fall in love with this notebook's looks as well as its functionality. The Adamo's chassis is milled from a single piece of aluminum and features precision detailing with a scalloped backlit keyboard. Even the fan holes, which are punched out squares, have an attractive modern design. The Adamo features a thin 0.65-inch profile and weighs four pounds. The new ultra-portable will also offer Intel Core 2 Duo processors and DDR3 memory (up to 4GB), a 13.4-inch 16:9 HD display and a 128GB SSD hard drive. Pricing starts at $1,999 with Vista Ultimate 64." The Dell infomercial spokesmodel (video at the bottom of the link) concludes, "Adamo resulted from the union of technology with pleasure for the style-conscious individualist." OK, so he's no Steve Jobs.
....Well they've got the Apple pricing figured out....
Except for the fact that it comes saddled with VISTA, rather than a decent, reliable operating system such as OSX. Even if they put Linux on it, they would have a better computer. Apple is still the only computer maker that understands the value of integrated hardware and software design. No piecemeal computer kit thrown together by others will ever quite match the integrated holistic approach of Apple products.
All theory is gray
...Microsoft disallows manufacturers....
Well there is another albatross that manufacturers of computers other than Apple have around their necks. Because Apple is not subject to the legal whims of a convicted monopolist, they can put exactly the software features into their products they deem will give their customers the best experience. With Apple products, the distinction between hardware and software is nonexistent for all practical purposes. This is not and cannot be the case for anyone who buys the most important part of their product from a third party over which they have no control. It is the software that is at the heart of almost every modern high-tech product. The basic hardware components in a Macintosh computer of no different than in a Dell, HP or other manufacturers computers. Any good product is much more than the sum of its individual parts.
All theory is gray
Seriously? I hope this is an ad targeted at Frenchmen (he obviously speaks natively some Latin based language) who are thoroughly unimpressive while speaking English. I hope this is a large and affluent market for Dell to tap into otherwise I don't understand... ...Oh jesus...
Did the native English speaker just refer to this laptop as an aphrodisiac!?
The thing that makes me the most angry is that the person who approved this little gem probably makes more money than me. I just hope the person in charge of making it doesn't (but sadly I think they might)
