The End of Tax-Free Internet Shopping?

Mordok-DestroyerOfWo writes "If a little-known but influential alliance of state politicians, large retailers, and tax collectors have their way, the days of tax-free Internet shopping may be nearly over. A bill expected to be introduced in the US Congress as early as Monday would rewrite the ground rules for mail order and Internet sales by eliminating what its supporters view as a 'loophole' that, in many cases, allows Americans to shop over the Internet without paying sales taxes."

Tell your government to stop overspending YOUR taxpayer dollars, and you'll have a valid argument.

Indeed. By some odd coincidence, a quarter of a million people marched yesterday in grassroots protests (not organized by any political party) against overspending, largely objecting to both political parties. At least one Republican politician (California GOP chair Ron Nehring) who presumably thought this was a pro-Republican rally was surprised when he was introduced to a crowd as the guy who voted for more spending, harsly booed by thousands, and not allowed to speak.

We're trying to tell our government to stop spending! 250,000 this time move us from a total news boycott to being the butt of jokes, with cable news networks calling the protesters "teabaggers". That's progress: first they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win. The next round of protests will be on July 4.

I can't guess which political party will decide this is important. The Republicans don't seem to care about cutting spending any more then the Dems these days. But if these protests grow, someone will realize that it's a real issue: people who work full time, and especially people who run small business and create job for others, are taxed enough already, and the "3 trillion in 3 months" rate of spending means taxes must increase.
