What Did You Do First With Linux?

ruphus13 writes "OStatic has an interesting article on remembering the first time you used Linux. Quoting: 'I'm not sure if the admission that I remember my first Linux installation much more clearly than any date with my first boyfriend or my first date with my husband is a really wise thing to put in writing. I will freely admit it wasn't quite as anxiety-inducing as a date, and the long-term relationship that sprang from it taught me quite a bit about myself, how I learn, and how to passionately load kernel modules at boot. So, what was your first Linux experience?'"

Pope Algore is testifying before Congress that he wants Cap and Trade AND a carbon tax foisted upon the American people. Of course, people who don't subscribe to the cult of global warming (and there are plenty of them) were forbidden from testifying. If there's one thing most religious zealots can't deal with, it's criticism.

Algore is a coward. He refuses to participate in an internationally-televised debate with the UK's Lord Christopher Monckton, a former science advisor to Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. He refuses because he knows:

      1) His ideas are scientifically indefensible. The earth has been much warmer than it is now for 90% of the last 300 million years. Also, we have ben in a global cooling cycle for the last 7 years, and the earth's temperature correlates far better with solar output (duh!) than with human industrial activity.

      2) Carbon taxes and Cap and Trade will appear as a hidden tax on every good and service that Americans purchase. This will result in a massive wealth and manufacturing shift away from western nations, furthering their decline and furthering the extent to which the US is China's economic bitch.

      3) The stated effects of increased CO2 in the atmosphere range from improved agriculture (bonus) to complete annihilation of all life on earth (bummer). Wouldn't it be a good idea to know the right answer before we proceed to completely dismantle the standard of living we enjoy in the developed world, and before we completely surrender our sovereignty and individual liberties to some faceless, unelected global governing body?

      4) Unlike the amateur alarmist Algore, Lord Monckton is an actual scientist, not some media darling hack. Lord Monckton has completely discredited Algore's Nobel Peace Prize-winning Powerpoint presentation. Lord Monckton would use facts and reason to shred Pope Gore in front of an international audience, and the populist energy behind the global warming lobby would evaporate - something the power-hungry let cannot allow.

      5) Algore's carbon indulgence business partner is a former Goldman Sachs executive, and Goldman Sachs is lobbying heavily in favor of another hidden tax on Americans because presumably Goldman Sachs will play a major role in any carbon indulgence trading shell game that Congress devises.

This is why it's very, very bad to have a single party running everything, folks. The liberties for which your founding fathers risked their lives are being eroded at an ever faster pace. There is literally nothing that can stop Congress and the President from taxing the shit out of you on every front. Notice how the current crop of elected dunces never stops to ask if a tax should be implemented, but HOW it can be implemented.

"I place economy among the first and important virtues, and public debt as the greatest of dangers. To preserve our independence, we must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt. We must make our choice between economy and liberty, or profusion and servitude. If we run into such debts, we must be taxed in our meat and drink, in our necessities and in our comforts, in our labors and in our amusements. If we can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of caring for them, they will be happy."
