Hosting a Highly Inflammatory Document?

IndianaKim writes "I have been asked if I can host or assist in hosting a highly inflammatory document that reflects poorly on a Police Department. I want to help, but I also do not want the headache and possible subjection to search warrants and/or illegal searches. The document is so inflammatory that it could interest the FBI and DoJ and cause them to investigate the government officials involved. I live in the same county, but not the same city, and therefore could be subject to a search (legal or not) by some of these government agencies. I have been asked to host it on a server outside of the US. At this time, I do not have the ability to do that, but I could set it up if I needed to. My question is: would you host it if you were asked? How would you go about protecting the document and yourself?"

  1. Consult an attorney? Maybe not... by Anonymous Coward · · Score: -1, Flamebait

Police aren't the only ones that have been found to be corrupt. My cousin was recently sent to prison for a charge that shouldn't even have been prosecuted, but his lawyer "traded" his conviction, and some of his other clients, in order to get one of his other clients off (probably his dealer). This is a common practice in California according to a family member that has worked for an attorneys' office there.

Remember, corrupt officers of the law can't operate on their own. They must be assisted by others in the system. I've seen judges, cops, lawyers, teachers, businessmen, and pastors involved in "oppressing" people trying to better themselves ("know your place boy!"), or threatening their clique ("upsetting the applecart aint wise").

"The Good 'ole Boy" network is alive and strong in smaller cities and towns of America. If you're in it, you're a big fish in a little pond and can get away with murder (sometimes literally). If you're fighting it, you (and family and friends) are screwed. The only way to fight it is to bring in bigger guns (good luck with that), or sometimes with real guns (kept my uncle alive, once-upon-a-time-not-long-ago).

The problem with fighting the network of corruption, is that they are continually springing up. The power-seeking bastards see a vacuum, and fill it up again, just like drug-dealing gang-bangers.

Until the very nature of humanity changes, the only solution I see is to periodically hit a region, investigate the piss out of the local "community leaders", and tailor prison jumps (or chains) for the corrupt ones. Make an object lesson of those that abuse the responsibilities entrusted to them by the people.
