China Stops Restaurants From Serving Envenomed Chicken

It may be tastier than fire ant salad, and safer to eat than staple cake, but the Chinese government has stopped restaurants in the southern province of Guangdong from serving chickens that have been bitten to death by poisonous snakes. The dish, which is supposed to have detoxifying properties, has caused an uproar with local media and bloggers. "Although nobody has been poisoned, this at the very least is an irregular way of slaughtering poultry," the Chongqing Business Daily quoted a local health official as saying.

Snake venom isnt even dangerous to ingest... and it is VENOM not POISON.

Poison is dangerous to ingest, venom is dangerous in the blood stream. To quote a strangely lucid statement from Wikipedia, "venoms are usually defined as biologic toxins that are injected by a bite or sting to cause their effect, while other poisons are generally defined as substances which are absorbed through epithelial linings such as the skin or gut"

Correct, but what if somebody with small tears in their digestive tract / piles / etc eats it? Horrible death, I suspect.

True, but snakes are usually immune to their own venom even if it does enter their bloodstream. (Which there is a significant chance of from minor digestive tract injuries, conflicts with other snakes etc.)
