Woman Throws Away Mattress Containing $1 Million

An elderly woman "almost fainted" when she discovered her daughter had bought her a new mattress, and thrown away the old one which contained the woman's life savings. The daughter rushed to get the mattress back but she was too late. It had been mixed up with another 3,000 tonnes of rubbish collected that day. A search of 3 different landfills have failed to turn up the $1 million dollar mattress. "People have to take everything in proportion and thank God for the good and the bad," said the daughter. Her mother had no comment.

    I thought this was somewhat of an "old wives tale", storing money in your mattress. Can't find the mattress huh? Anyone bother checking the daughter's basement? Bought her mother a new mattress indeed! Sounds like the daughter made about a million dollar profit on that transaction.

    or... the daughter found out about the money, got mum a new mattress, and 'threw the old one away' into her own truck to take it away.... then conveniently its cant be found in the regular landfills :) gotta love happy endings LOL

    1. Don't put money in your mattress, especially if you have a daughter, or someone who might try to "help" you some day by throwing away your property without your permission.
    2. Don't throw away other people's stuff before consulting them. Sure she wanted to be nice and get her a new mattress; throwing away her old one, however, was totally inappropriate. What if she doesn't like the new mattress and wants the old one back, maybe the old one had some special significance???
    3. Dumpster diving can be extremely profitable, tear up any thrown away mattresses/furniture you see, there may be some lost change.
