A Video Ad, In a Paper Magazine

lee1 writes "The first-ever video advertisement will be published in a traditional paper magazine — Entertainment Weekly — in September. The video will be displayed on slim-line screens around the size of a mobile phone display and will have rechargeable batteries. The associated chip can hold up to 40 minutes of video, and uses technology similar to that used in singing greeting cards, playing the movie when the page is turned. The first clips will preview CBS shows and advertise Pepsi, but they will only be distributed in Los Angeles and New York. Imagine the fun hacking possibilities."

If these are just like other commercials they will grossly over-represent minorities in a practice known as blonking. For example, blacks are 13% of the population in the USA but they appear in 90% or more of the TV commercials. So, somebody is compensating for something and that, ladies and gents, is what we call social engineering. Whenever you see a commercial with a white woman, a black man, and an Asian woman, you can say to yourself "My, what a nice artificially diverse group!" Isn't top-down social programming by means of subtle messages great? The politically correct types feel so guilty all the time that they think they are doing those "unfortunate minorities" a favor by being so patronizing towards them. Of course, it's still socially acceptable to bash white males and Christians, so we still have something like "niggers" we just don't call them that anymore and the identity of that group's members have changed, that way we can say we have advanced as a society.

You are very serial. The "I loves the planet" angst juxtaposed with the karmic self-obsession is pretty good though.
