Doing Internet Searches Boosts Older Brains
Hugh Pickens writes "Medical News Daily reports that researchers have found signs of enhanced neural stimulation in parts of the brain that control decision-making and reasoning when they scanned the brains of middle-aged and older first-time Internet users after only seven days of performing Internet searches. 'We found that for older people with minimal experience, performing Internet searches for even a relatively short period of time can change brain activity patterns and enhance function,' says Dr Gary Small, a professor of psychiatry at the Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior at UCLA. At the start of the study, the participants performed Internet searches while the researchers took fMRI scans of their brains to track changes in blood flow in the brain and record subtle changes in neural activity. After practicing searching the Internet for 7 days over 2 weeks at home, the brains of the Internet novices showed activity in the same regions as before, but this time there was new activity in the middle frontal gyrus and inferior frontal gyrus, the parts of the brain that are important for working memory and decision-making. 'You can exercise your mind by using the Internet, but it depends on how it's used,' adds Small. 'If you get hooked on gambling or eBay shopping, that may not be positive.'"
How long until they degrade to the level of the OP here?
Every time you reply to a first post, god kills a brain cell.
Wait until they exercise their lower brains.
Mushy mush!! Hmmm
Life is not for the lazy.
I believe he goes by the name "50 Cent," pronounced "Fitty Cent."
And for anyone who is still in denial about America's advanced progress towards Fascism, from the AP today:
"Insurance industry officials have been involved in discussions for months with the White House and key congressional Democrats over proposed legislation. They repeatedly said they would accept a series of new restrictions, as long as the legislation required Americans to purchase insurance, thus assuring insurers millions of new customers."
There you have it, folks. Undeniable proof at just how far in bed corporate America and the US government are. You will be forced to buy insurance under the guise of providing cheaper health care for all (including illegals - you know your wealthy overlords will instruct health care providers to look the other way when it comes to confirming that someone is indeed entitled to receive treatment that the beleaguered American middle class will be funding the brunt of). In exchange for this insurance that you might not want or need, the insurance companies will receive millions of new customers, and billions in federal subsidies for those who can't afford whatever boondoggle we wind up with.
For those of you who feel more than a little uneasy about the pace at which our slide into Fascism has accelerated after February 2009, you're not imagining things. Your worst fears are materializing before your very eyes. You'd better speak up while you still can. They may control the big media outlets, and they may resort to straw men and ridicule, but you outnumber them and you surround them. It's time to tell them to get in the back seat and to shut the fuck up.
