Spector Tried To Gain Back Rights To Deus Ex

An anonymous reader writes "Warren Spector's doing the circuit for the just-announced Epic Mickey, and has noted that he actually approached Disney with two other games in mind — including one he says was 'the spiritual successor to Deus Ex.' Spector actually attempted to buy back the rights to the game he's most loved for from Eidos, but was unable to get the company to sell it to him. That's a shame, he notes, because 'there were and still are Deus Ex stories I would like to tell.'"

    ...it was a decent game but it became quite confusing and long-winded. I never finished it. Maybe that's what they get by letting me decide the ending?

    Amazing game; I replay it approximately once a year. Someone definitely needs to make a DECENT sequel to it.

      I would say that Invisible was decent. Comparing "decent" to the original Deus Ex is like comparing a nice steak to a frozen pizza. I like both, but given the choice, the pizza looks pretty bad.

      Ehh, it was okay, but even if it was a standalone game and I had never played Deus Ex, I think I would have been disappointed. The design was just off in so many ways.

      Considering Warren Spector was the lead developer for Deus Ex 2, perhaps he is not that somebody.

      Well that's true, but the hack developers of Deus Ex 3 want to put in fucking regenerating health. Regenerating health. It's going to be as casual as Halo.

      Considering Warren Spector was the lead developer for Deus Ex 2, perhaps he is not that somebody.

      Well, according to Spector, it was Harvey Smith's baby, even if Spector did end up credited as lead designer.

      "For me the biggest challenge is backing off and letting Harvey Smith's team make their game ... I'm definitely not the creative force on this one. I got the ball started last time, and now Harvey's running it."
