Somali Pirates Open Up a "Stock Exchange"

"'Four months ago, during the monsoon rains, we decided to set up this stock exchange. We started with 15 "maritime companies" and now we are hosting 72. Ten of them have so far been successful at hijacking,' Mohammed [a wealthy former pirate who took a Reuters reporter to the facility] said. ... Piracy investor Sahra Ibrahim, a 22-year-old divorcee, was lined up with others waiting for her cut of a ransom pay-out after one of the gangs freed a Spanish tuna fishing vessel. 'I am waiting for my share after I contributed a rocket-propelled grenade for the operation,' she said, adding that she got the weapon from her ex-husband in alimony. 'I am really happy and lucky. I have made $75,000 in only 38 days since I joined the "company."'"

The west has modern fighter jets and destroyers, so no we are not an 'easier' target. Plus of course there is the fact that there was fighting between armed Somalis, but of course as a veteran armchair warrior you should know that. And yes, westerners are the scourge of the planet. Its an empirical fact.

The real problem is that they are showing that piracy pays, even in the face of significant Western naval support.
Which is a much bigger problem than the millions of dollars they've been paid in ransoms. These pirates have shown that, for all our vaunted might, the Western powers can do nothing to stop them because there is no political will to do so. Even though the US spends billions of dollars on our Navy, we can't stop a few thousand guys with assault rifles in rubber rafts from controlling the sea lanes. This is yet another sign that the American empire is in serious decline and doesn't have long to live.

Didn't know about people dieing in Africa? You must be racist! No, there's no possibility that you've just never had anyone tell you what's going on in a third world country half the world away (I've never heard anything about it from any news on TV, which is how most people still get their news). Also, even if you're just as unaware of the rest of the world as you are of Africa, in this particular case the people in question are black, ipso facto you must be racist.
I have a suggestion. How about you grow up, and realize that in the modern world (in first-world countries at least, I can't speak about anywhere else) not everything (and by that I mean almost nothing) is about race. Yes, there are still a few morons who've got it in their heads that they are superior to someone else because of their skin color. There always will be. There are also morons who've got it in their heads that they are superior to other people because of their political views or religious views. There will always be morons who believe they are superior to group X because group X is different from them in aspect Y. The fact is, you no longer have any justification for being so hyper-sensitive about skin color. Other than a few nuts, no one cares anymore. You (for the most part -- like I said, there's still the occasional nut) no longer have standing to complain about all the great injustices done to you (or others), because of racial differences. That right belonged to your fathers, grandfathers, great grandfathers, etc. The world has grown up, and put those past injustices to past generations behind it. Now it's time you got over your love of playing the victim, and quit playing race card any time a black man is involved in anything. That attitude belongs in the past just as much as the racism that spawned it.
