Danish Prostitutes Offer Free Climate Summit Sex

Copenhagen's Mayor Ritt Bjerregaard thought sending postcards to hotels warning summit guests to stay away from Danish sex workers during the upcoming conference was a good idea. What he didn't know is that hell hath no marketing scheme like a prostitute scorned. The Sex Workers Interest Group has now offered free sex to anyone producing one of the postcards. "This is sheer discrimination. Ritt Bjerregaard is abusing her position as Lord Mayor in using her power to prevent us carrying out our perfectly legal job. I don't understand how she can be allowed to contact people in this way," SIO Spokeswoman Susanne Møller said.

Well, that’s obviously not making the prostitutes any money... so what’s the point of it? Publicity?

A political statement. At the moment it is legal to be a prostitute and also legal to be a customer. It is not legal to be a pimp or madam however, a somewhat ineffective attempt at catching/punishing/curbing human trafficking.

The reason the prostitutes are so vocal is that there are strong forces working towards banning prostitution in Denmark. One of the biggest parties, the social democrats, decided to make illegal prostitution part of their political programme. Incidentaly the mayor of Copenhagen Ritt Bjerregaard is from this party.

an 8hr drive is probably a pretty short plane ride. Compare it with this drive and see how all of a sudden it's not that bad.

Heck, I haven't even left the province of Ontario with this example, let alone traveled to a different country. In order for me to leave home, cross into another country and then cross into a third country (Mexico) I'd have to drive 30h at the least. An 8h drive or shorter flight from Amsterdam to Copenhagen sounds like a short sidetrip to me. I've had successful relationships with longer distances between points.
