Steve Jobs Crowned "Person of the Decade"

longacre writes "Apple CEO Steve Jobs won over 30% of the vote in an online poll published by personal finance and investing news site SmartMoney.com, enough to earn their 'Person of the Decade' title by a solid margin over luminaries such as Warren Buffett (17%), Ben Bernanke (13%) and Google founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page (12%). From the article: 'Certainly, Jobs accomplished more than probably any other CEO since he returned to Apple in the late 1990s: Not only did he revive sales at the failing computer company, he led the stock to a more than 700% increase in value, and forever changed the way people buy and listen to music.'"

Steve Jobs is the farmer and the current generation of fancy-clothed-hip-young-lifestyle people are his sheep.

i SERIOUSLY do not get what is so great about Apple products. All they do is take a pre-existing product, add gloss and make it look nice and the sheep come pouring in. What a stupid time we live in, Idiocracy is not far away.

BTW I'm not a M$ fan-boy, but I would take aMicrosoft product (or Linux) over Apple any day. Practicality over aesthetics I say.

    Yes.

Actually, HE is an enemy of the state, IMHO. He is not for the people, he is for non-person entities (Corporations), who in the name of robbing from the public, has all but bankrupted our country. Well that and two Nation Building enterprises. How about building OUR nation, and Screw the Afgans and Iraqis.

Time to bring our boys (and girls) home, from everywhere over seas. Close all foreign soil bases. And time to open up OUR resources so we don't have to pay shitloads of money to petty dictators for their oil.

Lets start re-building America. The world hates us, so let them. Let them see what the world is like without the USA backing up their stupid views with our blood and our money.

Not isolationism, reality. Let us deal with others with the USA first in mind. Being the "friendly neighbor" hasn't done us any good lately.

My Foreign Policy Statement if I were President: Leave us alone, and we'll leave you alone. Mess with us, and we'll send everything we have, pillage your natural resources and leave you a mess to clean up. Or you can play nice and we'll play nice with you. Your choice, choose wisely.

Yemen would be rubble right now.

By the way, those two wars, over 6 years, cost more than the Health Care Reform legislation will cost over the next ten years.

Dude, the cost scoring of the health care reform are a fantasy. Democrats once said that Medicare and Medicaid will only cost 10 billion a year, and look how that turned out.

Jobs is the shithead that yelled at people who did design the hardware when it didn't meet his personal expectations. He isn't a visionary, just an exceptional salesman. Perhaps at one time he had a hand in design, but these days he's about as much the design man as Homer Simpson was in that episode where he designed the over engineered car. I'm sure I'll be modded into oblivion for telling it how it is but someone has to say it.

      Apple is awful.

Product quality is awful. Customer service is awful. Bang for buck is awful. I could give examples but fanboys like you would just stand there and counter with nonsense.

Removing some buttons, crippling what the device can run, and deciding which useful features to remove doesn't make Jobs a genius. Peddling putrid garbage and making it smell of roses in the ads is where his genius lies.

I'd be a lot more interested in the iPhone if I could write and run my own software, and if they didn't have the ability to pull products at their whim. I'm unimpressed with laptops fitting in a manilla envelope when it makes them weaker and removes something as useful as a CD/DVD. If I had my way all my devices would use standard batteries that are not just user replaceable but swappable on the fly.

Gates and Jobs are no different - rude spoilt children throwing their weight around. You've been brainwashed by their little cult.

They add a DAMN GOOD user interface. Which, at the end of the day, is what made the iPhone, the iPod, and Mac OS X.

And, as Linux, Windows, and the incredibly crowded universe of phones continually demonstrate, it's not easy to come up with a good user interface.
