On the other hand it might just be a failed missile test. I'm going to warm up the infinite improbability drive just in case.

I thought it was pretty well established that it was a failed Russian missile launch.
It's hard not to believe the Pakistan Daily! I mean, if you can't get reliable news from them where can you get it? :-P

it was just a rocket spiraling out of control. A rocket exhaust plume merely behaves differently in space/ the exosphere than in the lower atmosphere.
After logging in slashdot still does not take you back to the page you were on. It's been that way for 20 years.

Come on, this is quoting a Pakistani newspaper... are you surprised that according to them Russia have apparently all of the sudden changed its mind from the previously admitted cause - a failed russian intercontinental missile launch? What next will american devils do?
