Subtitles do whatever your player device or software decides on doing. If someone wanted to be obnoxious they could patch their favorite player to make them pan, spin, flash, whatever...

Actually, YouTube is one of the few video sites that you can watch on an iPad Not only does YouTube support HTML5 video (in beta, of course), but the iPad has a built in YouTube app, just like the iPhone
This one was pretty tame. The best I've ever seen was the Hitler rant about the balance in Company of Heroes. Fit the scene like a glove. I think you can still enjoy it without having played the game.

I've never seen one of these hitler things before but I just watched this ipad one and the one you linked to, and the one you linked to was shit compared to the ipad one. Because the video is the same, I guess it's just comes down to which viewpoint you sympathise more with. For me, it's the ipad one. for you, it's the one about some crappy game.

It's sad when "software freedom" comes to mean that you can install any 3rd party software you want on your device and are able to put whatever data you choose on or off the device.
Give these iPads teeth and have them hovering about like an old Herbie movie and you've got Stallman's recurring nightmare.

Anyway, disregarding all mentioned and generally applicable benefits of (even small) German familiarity - it makes those Hitler Youtube remixes much less "enjoyable"; would make them less widespread perhaps. That gotta has value...
I think your'e making a bigger deal of the german speaker aspect than there is to make. My father is half german, spent a good chunk of his childhood in german. Now, ok, he lives in england, and didn't really pass on german to us, but he speaks german (and frence + latin). He found one of these Downfall remixing about something or other, and found it as funny as hell.
Perhaps, to be more precise, it's more about how long such fad can go on. Sure, even native speakers can be amused about such remixes...few times (especially when talking about remixes of the same footage).
The Downfall scene is brilliantly acted, you don't need to speak the language to feel the emotion pouring out. Making it a great backdrop for the text of your rant, on top of that the Hitler element makes it a piss take too. Until some better 'rant' scene comes along, I think Downfall remixes are here to stay.
Unfortunatelly it's possible, I guess, that this cheapens the scene, the film. Yes, OTOH it's quite likely that Untergang remixes brought many viewers to the movie proper, giving it greater potential influence; it might more then make up for what I percieve as cheapening (plus, while using humor to cope with horrible things is understandable, I guess it's a bit scary to me that so many people might need to escape like that in this case)
There's a heck of a lot more to the use of a language than the raw number of native speakers. Example, honestly, which of these would you rather learn? Italian or Tamil? Korean or Marlathi? German or Bengali? I'm not trying to diminish the importance of those languages, they're important too, but you've got to consider economic, scientific, cultural, ect. significance a language has as well as how many people speak it, and in those terms German ranks very high. In other words, you're wrong. German is very important, no matter who you are or where you live, especially on the internet.
I disagree; I'm in my third semester of German, which admittedly isn't much (right now I'm planning on building my vocab by reading Max und Moritz), but even though I can pick out bits of what they're saying I still think some of them are pretty funny. This one is my favorite.
I agree it's not as simple as raw numbers, but other factors complicate it even more. For example most of German people I know are very fluent with English. If you need to work with them, you can just use English and they will too. In other hand, generally Chinese, French and Russian is different matter (from the good economic and scientific countries and where it makes sense to do business).
The cost-to-benefit ratio is a lot better for those countries because generally you can't work good with plain English, but with for example German people you can.
Yeah, I guess that is also true; the same thing applies to Hindi, but still, that won't help you any if you want to read something on paper or without a site without getting 'my hovercraft is full of eels,' or if you want to stray off into the more native places in Germany/Austria/German Switzerland. I'm not saying that there aren't considerable reasons to choose another, like Arabic or Portuguese, just that I think it balances out enough to make German also a very good choice. I admit I'm a bit biased here though, since I'm a one of the people who likes languages and cultures and that stuff and would prefer get into the nitty gritty of the places where the more important languages are spoken rather than expect anyone else to speak English for me, even for things like German or Hindi. I'm in my third level of German class now and have taken a number of others.
The reason I'm saying this is that when I was in Germany, everyone spoke good English so you got around. Of course, if you're going to work in a German company, then it's good to know German language, but generally you get around there with English and can work with German companies just with plain English.
On the other hand, while I was living in Russia pretty much no one could understand English. For the first months I got around just by sign language there (ie. cashier in store asked - which I learned the first time - if I wanted a pack, and I raised index finger to get one:). In kiosks I had to point at things from shells I wanted to buy. When I once bought multiple items, a local guy who knew a little bit English had to come translate the total price to me. While it was totally possible to get around like that in normal life (maybe annoying the locals), it's not going to work in business world.
On that regard, I don't think it makes any sense for me to learn Arabic or Korean and so on. It pretty much comes to what different people need in their path in life. German might be good to learn to someone, but you never know what is until you actually need it. Maybe I sometime need those languages I think are really obscure now. Life changes a lot along the way.
To add to this - the company I work at works with German companies using English, but we had to hire someone knowing Russian to work with them as it was impossible otherwise.
You should learn English first; it would suit you better to figure out how your current primary works than starting on other languages.
It appears to me that you do not have a multilingual background, since your post was rather misinformed. Learning another language in addition to your native tongue only serves to improve your understanding of your native tongue. This has been researched and I speak from experience, as I'm the parent of two bilingual children. Languages do not compete over space in the brain, they support each other.
With Apple making so many bone-headed moves recentlty, it makes me wonder: Could Jobs have received a Microsoft liver???

Its just a phone blow up to 8", not much functionally. Soon as the word gets out No Usb, Weird OS (all their windows programs will not work), no flash (no web games, youtube or facebook & myspace apps) and about 10 other things people will forget about it.
