Media Industry Wants Mandated Spyware and More
An anonymous reader writes "The joint comment filed by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) and the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) requests anti-infringement software on all home computers, pervasive copyright filtering, border searches, forced US intellectual property policies on foreign nations and a joint departmental agency to combat infringement during major releases." The MPAA would also like to have its rent paid a bit by Congress, with a ban on what seems to me like a useful tool (for those in as well as outside the film industry), the recently-discussed futures market for box-office receipts.
Wow, a Mac fanboi with pie in the sky dreams of Linux mass adoption. Will miracles never cease?
*cough* *cough*
Anyone care to provide an example of why I'm wrong? Big Media owns this motherfucker. They dragged him across the finish line, and now he owes them big time. Don't think they won't call in their favors. All they have to do is threaten him with more Jeremiah Wright and Tony Rezko stories, and he'll start shuckin' and jivin' for them like nobody's business.
Are you in the habit of posting incomplete thoughts in online forums? Just curious...
When are people going to finally be fed up with being treated like criminals for the sake of a greedy cartel of Suits that have no morals to speak of?
When are people going to finally wise up and put these assholes in their place?
There is no moral ground to stand on when they are currently downloading media without paying for it (it is illegal).
What's the moral argument? "I deserve and am entitled to all songs, movies, books etc. ever produced at great cost (or even minimal cost) for FREE.
Yeah that makes a great argument
I am always surprised that people associate the MPAA and RIAA together.
It shouldn't. Most people who complain about them are just upset that someone wants to prevent them from getting free stuff. Any moral arguments they have built up around the topic are later justifications for what they want to do. For an example, see the guy above who says you can't get music without DRM at a good price. He completely ignores the fact that you *can*.

"Should be shot?"
Over that, dude you guys need to get some bigger priorities if you want to shoot them over not getting your movies/music. Get over it, move on and stop trying to push your 'open source/free' agenda.
Maybe if they were denying us food/water/shelter I might have some sympathy, but for gods sake take your big egos elsewhere and stop sucking on the tit of Hollywood than turning around saying "this milk doesn't taste right"
Tell that argument to the judge though, I find it funny they feel invincible behind the internet yet when summoned to court they shrivel up like little trolls.
RIAA IS NOT HOLDING A GUN TO YOUR HEAD MAKING YOU DOWNLOAD ILLEGAL FILES!!
It's not like they have you locked in on their product like MS and there is no way to get out, move along trolls.
Put your money where your mouth is and start making your own movies/music, should be pretty entertaining or the reality is it will be complete crap. Face it, every great Sci-Fi film requires big budgets from these CORPORATIONS and I am sure the anti-RIAA crowd could give a crap about those details. To them it is always "ME ME ME! GIMME GIMME!".
At the end of the day most of the media out there is produced by American companies/people and there is a reason why other countries love to watch our stuff; because the system they have in place doesn't allow them the creativity factor and you get crappy indie movies.
Oh yeah, reported you to FBI for advocating to shoot people and your schizophrenic rant. Have fun talking it up with the other religious extremist locked up for their threats.
If people are so cheap that they won't spend 89 cents on their own cultural enrichment, then they are (regards to Ms. Palin) retards. If all you want to do is use the work of someone else for your own enjoyment without giving them something back in return, then you are a leach on society, and deserve nothing in return.
