PA Appeals Court Weighs Punishment For Students' Online Parodies

crimeandpunishment writes "Is it a student's right to free speech or a school's right to discipline? A US Appeals Court in Pennsylvania heard arguments Thursday on a case that could have far-reaching implications. The issue involves the suspension of two students, from two different Pennsylvania school districts, for web postings they made on their home computers. The students posted parody profiles on MySpace that mocked their principals. The American Civil Liberties Union argued on behalf of the students."

Actually, the most important difference between Americans and radical Muslims is that only radicals have beliefs like this:

Muslims and their supporters don't count as Americans... if anyone else is thoughtful enough to kill Muslims...

The beliefs of most Americans are no less toxic, and have scarcely caused less harm in the time both have been around. The point of America is that you can be an American, no matter what your personal belief or superstition, and we don't tend to kill people merely for their beliefs. People like you are every bit as much a threat to the American ideal as the most hardcore Sharia supporter.

Democracy is not a suicide pact. Islam if applied in the US would result in a theocracy.

I've been to the Middle East and see how they roll. It's all bad. KSA, the Emirates, Kuwait, Turkey. etc are not comparable with the freedom I DEMAND.

Have you seen Islam up close, in what capacity, and what is your religion so observers may understand your motives?

Not wanting to live in the Middle East, I oppose the expansion of its loathsome systems to the West. Enough blood has been spilt to persuade Christians to behave themselves most of the time. Religion is bad, Fundamentalism (when people are actually faithful to their superstition) is worse, and there is ONLY reason to tolerate beliefs that are tolerant and SECULAR themselves. Anyone who favors theocracy should be dealt with decisively. Religion eliminates any rational debate but the bullet.

Tolerance for Islam benefits only Islam. It was inevitable that an adaptive system would find a way to _completely_ exploit the "suicide pact" ideal of tolerance and self-abnegation. Muslims, being adaptive, have done so. The idea you have that we are obliged to tolerate ourselves out of power because of the duty to an abstract ideal that "everything is everything so we dare not judge anything or resist an enemy", has already been leveraged by Muslims.
