But even without its legions of pedopriests, the Catholic Church's ban on contraception comes from the same place: control mating opportunities amongst the laity, and you can keep 'em in church -- because without sex, your gigantic cathedrals (which feature some of the most beautiful architecture/lighting/windows/artwork ever created, and giant mindblowing-reverberating pipe organs that still sound awesome centuries after their construction) were the closest thing a Dark Ages serf would ever get to experiencing ecstasy.

After World War 1, so much infrastructure in Germany was without owners and receptive to buy through their government that all kinds of speculative foreigners arrived. Ever since after World War 1 that's when prostitution, Ghettos, thievery, murder, and general crime rose so high that everyone got to the bottom of it and found that all the foreigners living among Germans brought it from their prior cultures in Poland, Bavaria, and some areas in Russia. And now you know why the German National Socialist Party (Nazi. Party) arrived on the scene, pushed be a leader who found the same foreign people that kept him from entering a liberal Arts class of a major University to be indistinguishable from a similar branch of his family-tree that he detested for being the primary mafias in illicit lifestyle and proponents of detestable living arrangements: jews.

Yes, Adolf Hitler was unlike his fellow jews in that he loved Germany to not see it miscegenate a moral culture by sinful unrepentant nomads. Yet at the same time, he wanted to help both jews and Germans.

You write so poorly that at first I thought you were trolling. But if you're going to argue against my post, you can at least refrain from contradicting yourself:

    1. In point 4, you admonish me for not knowing the beliefs of the Chinese (which is irrelevant, because I was discussing the government position, not the citizens' beliefs...), but yet in point 2 you claim the US is not a Christian nation. Had you even checked Wikipedia, you'd know that, "According to a 2007 survey, 78.4% of adults identified themselves as Christian..." So according to your logic, China is not atheist because the majority are not atheist, but the US isn't Christian in spite of the fact that the majority are Christian. When you make such contradictory statements, you tar all atheists with the brush of cognitive dissonance. (And as a side point, I understand there are intellectually honest arguments in defense of atheism, but you aren't making them.)
    2. In point 5, you simply ignore the fact that the Chinese treatment of Catholics is so bad the Vatican does not recognize the ecclesial authority of priests ordained by the Chinese government church. While "not Christian" does not equal "anti-Christian", the Chinese have a long track record of persecuting religious minorities, including Christians.
    3. In point 3, you seem to imply there's something immoral about pornography - why would you mention the moral angle, otherwise? Yet in point 7, you claim there's nothing wrong with pornography. Okay, fine, I can accept that you're an atheist, and you believe there's nothing wrong with porn. But then explain to me why, as I originally asked, an atheist government is banning porn. It seems inconsistent with atheism to ban pornography, as your point 7 implies.
    4. And lastly, with respect to point 6, I am part of a faith tradition which extends back about three to four thousand years. The spiritual issues surrounding the "lusts of the flesh" haven't changed during that time. From a spiritual and moral perspective, lust is a relatively well-understood phenomena. You may not care about the spiritual consequences of pornography - fine - but with respect to morality, it is opposed by almost every religion which takes a position on the issue. You may not agree with them. But that's irrelevant to my point: if you don't know *why* pornography is wrong, why would you ban it, except for ulterior motives?

Now I don't like debate which is pointless. You've contradicted yourself multiple times in the above post, and if you continue to do so, you'll probably find someone who dismisses your arguments on that basis alone. If you're going to contribute to the discussion, going to enlighten someone, checking your post for logical consistency is a must to avoid a rash of "GOSH - you contradicted yourself!" replies which neither refute the points you make, nor add nothing to the discussion.

As for trolling, I'd say you're doing good work. Your post is worded so well it's honestly difficult to determine if you're really a passionate, but stupid atheist, or merely trying to make both atheists and Christians alike appear ignorant.

I suppose someone else would justify responding to what they knew to be a troll, but I could honestly care less.

How ironic that you devote so much energy to pointing out the GP's logical inconsistencies while you ignore the glaring fallacy that is the basis of your own argument.

      athiest != amoral

Most "Christian" morals* can be arrived at logically by examining the effects human behaviors have on society, and essentially doing a moral cost-benefit analysis. Moral codes exist to promote social stability, and as such you find certain mores in pretty much every human society, such as prohibitions on murder and stealing, marriage and corresponding prohibitions against adultery, prohibitions against incest, etc. The details of how a given culture defines those terms may vary, but the basic ideas are largely the same. It is common for societies to use religion as a way to encourage moral behavior, but religion is by no means necessary.

      * the exceptions being those that deal with specific religious practices (idolatry, "false" gods, etc)

"Your post is worded so well..."

      So which is it? :-)

I did not call you ignorant for being Christian, but for displaying a limited world view. Let me respond first to the crux of your ignorance:

"Okay, fine, I can accept that you're an atheist, and you believe there's nothing wrong with porn.""

Here and at several other points in your post, you're trying to put ALL atheists into one big category where everyone thinks exactly the same, has the same morals and so on. To add insult to injury, you group people by what they *don't* believe in. That shows that your mindset is rather limited and you think only in caricatures.

Do you honestly believe that just because I agree with someone about religion, I'm going to agree about everything else too?

      Really?

Do you agree with all religious people? Do you support gay marriage? Or not? Either way, you'll find religious people who disagree with you.

Sure, it's easy to go "Ick, naked people. WRONG!" I used to have such a view myself, until I grew up and found out that female sexual drive goes asymptotically to zero as they get settled into the relationship. And mine doesn't. Porn gives a nice release that all concerned parties (including the wife) are comfortable with. Maybe I should follow your Christian leaders who are caught with gay prostitutes? No thanks.

Ohh, wait... the prostitute-banging Christian leaders with millions of followers don't represent YOUR Christianity, right? Look who's suddenly able to differentiate now.

Do a little search for "porn use by Christians" and educate yourself a bit, OK?

And the gist of my post was that it's perfectly possible for someone with other views on religion to have rigid morals. If you've never met such people, your social circle is truly limited.

You carry this limitation into point 1 where you conflate a country's government, culture and its people. The Chinese culture is 5000 years old, the current government only 1/100 of that. The USA is a secular nation (as confirmed by the US Constitution). Most of the people, like in China, are religious. What's the contradiction, mac?

Then point 2: I could have phrased it better: persecution is not Christian-specific. But Catholics aren't Christians to begin with. Things like idol-worship is explicitly prohibited by the Bible.

Point 3: are you honestly unable to differentiate between a poster on Slashdot and the entire Chinese government? :-)

Point 4: your religion should not be obsessed with *my* sexuality

Now I know that I'm a little confrontational in how I phrase my opinion, but please don't let that stop you from deepening your world view.
