The only likely users are techies and early-adopter types. I could see a small business in these things for gamers and marketing and some other niche uses but I really don't see full immersion VR headsets becoming a mainstream technology.
Not sure I'd qualify the porn industry as niche, but if they pick up on this, and I reckon they will, that might certainly push sales big-time.
On the basis of what scientific research do you make such a claim? We are long past the age where women are trained from childhood to take certain jobs, accept certain careers, or forego careers. Yet women choose not to engage in certain professions in anywhere near a ratio indicative of the composition of society.
Spend a couple of hours watching television for children, paying attention to which toys are targeted at which part of the audience. The training is still there. Just look around you at how many women are still trained by their mothers to attract a man with money instead of carving out their own career. Cultural conditioning is still very much a thing.
Agreed, If I were to rank threats to my freedom in order, the US government would rank a whole fucking lot higher than all of the world's terrorists combined.
At no point should it be acceptable that/anybodies/ ethnic or racial background be a synonym for 'criminal'
Sorry, but when I see, say, a pretty girl with a Roma appearance in a major european city approaching tourists, the odds are heavily in favor of her being a pickpocket. You might call that ethnic profiling, I call it reality.
I was going to react to this, but to be quite frank the only possibly response is to ask what the frell you're talking about...can you give any examples of how european governments encourage women to act like prostitutes? Any at all?
Except that never happens. New jobs are created; someone has to innovate, someone has to maintain.
Yet at some point we'll have to face the point where an economy based on everyone working is simply not viable anymore. There's only so much busywork to go around before it becomes silly.
While a lot of what you say sounds like it makes perfect sense...do you have anything to back it up? Studies? Data? Actual examples of countries or communities that have done this?
Or is it just ideology? Which is fine, when it isn't being advertised as fact...
1 month for the moron boss to try and find out what it actually is you do all day. Another month for HR to get their shit together and file all the necessary paperwork. 28 days for the hiring process.
1 rainy afternoon for the actual handing over of the responsibilities.
How many people have been damaged by the acts of out of control politicians who answer to anyone that has the price to pay? When do the voters get their chance to be heard?
Once every election cycle. Unfortunately the vast majority doesn't have a clue.
2. The autism rates are still climbing. It's now like 1 in 50. And that's with the recent adjustments in diagnostic criteria which was intended to lower the rate, not raise it. We have a serious epidemic which no one is reporting or talking about. If this were the common cold, people would be freaking out!!! (1 in 50... more among boys than girls, so the current odds are at least one "special kid" in each class! And at this rate of increase it will be reported as 1.5 to 2 per classroom next year.)
A significant chunk of what we now call autism has for centuries been considered perfectly normal behavior in boys and men. What has changed is society's expectations on what behavior is acceptable and desirable, and hence all the outliers now get rubberstamped as "wrong" somehow.
In the past unruly boys were taught by other men, and if they acted up they'd get their head slapped. These days they're taught by women and supposed to be in touch with their feelings.
Britain is hardly a good example of "europe". While I will happily admit that the leaders of my own country have the american cock firmly entrenched in their throats, it doesn't go anywhere as far as the "special relationship" between the UK and the US.
How much of that pound of chicken was actual chicken and how much was injected water? Just curious.

Besides, why "stream" things as Google advertises?
Because some things are a lot more fun to watch in real-time at the same time as other people. Think (e-)sports and things like that.
Sure, I can watch the match the next day on youtube, but it isn't quite the same.
The current theory is that Mars, like Earth, at one point had a molten core that spun, thus causing a magnetic field that held an atmosphere.
The core solidified, stopped spinning, the field collapsed and the atmosphere went its merry way off into space.
In other news, just because your house burned down after getting hit by lightning does not mean it's safe for my 3 year old to play with matches.
Does Japan know something that Detroit doesn't?
Math...
But give them some respect, they aren't backward savages like most american's seem to believe.
Or, to phrase it somewhat differently, they're hardly any more backward and savage than most americans.

The REAL evidence of the singularity will be when I hear cars street racing at 1 in the morning... and there are no (human) drivers.
Now you have me wondering what the traditional girl with a scarf who gives the go will look like in an all-robot race...

The kid has probably learned that throwing a tantrum will get him what he wants, instead of a time-out or worse. Unfortunately all too common...

I once caught a small terrier standing on top of the couch in order to reach the Labrador bitch.
The pups were bigger than their dad within a few weeks after being born ;-)
Growing food covered in biohazardous poison doesn't exactly conjure up images of healthy and nutritious.
Neither does the image of food covered in faeces, but we've been doing that for quite a while too.

The level of distrust China now has may lead China to crack down domestically and build more effective domestic spying capabilities.
When it comes to the US snooping in one's affairs, strong distrust is not only healthy, it can only be called reasonable.
Remember, it's not paranoia if the NSA is actually checking out your internet history.

Would it not make more sense to wash one's hands *after* checking out the shit?
The vast majority of books are uninspired pulp. Same for music, movies, and other forms of expression, including Slashdot posts.
Sure they can. They just keep on choosing not to.
As far as Impy is concerned...staying out of the kitchen?
Now sudo go and make him a sandwich...
