if you are referring to google collecting wifi data, google has no credible defense. grab a linux distro, mapping ssid is a matter of a 3 lines script. If they bothered to use more code, some evil is involved.

He might also be referring to the belief some people seem to have that Google voluntarily disclosed this without any outside pressure. The fact is that they only disclosed this after European governments started demanding auditing the data the cars collected.

Unless, of course, one were hoping to use SSID + Signal strength to try to determine the user's position without accessing the WiFi network. You know, like what happens with Android phones.
