Family Shoots 'I Will Survive' Video While Visiting Auschwitz

Jane Korman is taking some heat for posting a video of her family dancing to the disco hit, I Will Survive while on a trip to the Auschwitz death camp in Poland. The Kormans are Jewish; Jane defends the recording, saying the video, which includes her 89-year-old father who survived the holocaust, was "a celebration of life and survival."

This is art at it's best. Maybe a bit too satirical/ironic for people's tastes depending on your viewpoint, but personally it looks like the survivor in the video is getting a blast out of it, so great for him. and if he's enjoying it you all should too. :)

I agree. If anyone can decide what is acceptable, it would have to be those that were victimized. I don't see it as satirical or ironic, more of as a celebration. Not only did he survive, but it looks to me like he didn't let it prevent him from enjoying life, either.

In my experience with meeting survivors of various concentration camps (among others, I know/knew a couple of ex-prisoner professors), they tend to be people with an optimistic outlook and generally enjoying their lives. They seem calm, not easily worried by anything.

And in a way, that makes a lot of sense. When a person has gone through horrors like those of the Holocaust, what in the modern world should scare them? Where the average person might be very stressed by the prospect of losing their job and having to move to some crappy hostel, that's absolutely nothing compared to what survivors went through. Which is why they're optimists.

      Sorry for the anonymous post.

To be precise, it was the Soviets who did that, under direct orders of Stalin. The Soviets were actually given the task of taking Berlin, American & British troops did not take part in the Battle of Berlin until after the Soviets won it, they only cut up and occupied the four sectors along with France afterward. The Soviet 3rd Shock Army took the Reichstag and discovered the charred bodies of Hitler and Braun in the rear grounds. He decreed in secret order that the remains were to be disposed of, and no mention of this was to be made to the British and American forces. When asked directly by the Allies the Soviet 3rd SA commander Kutznetsov shrugged and said he didn't know anything about Hitler or his whereabouts. To this day scholars are still trying to understand Stalin's reasoning for the secrecy.
