Wine 1.2 Released
David Gerard writes "Stuck with that one Windows app you can't get rid of? Rejoice — Wine 1.2 is officially released! Apart from running pretty much any Windows application on Unix better than 1.0 (from 2008), major new features include 64-bit support, bi-directional text, and translation into thirty languages. And, of course, DirectX 9 is well-supported and DirectX 10 is getting better. Packages should hit the distros over the weekend, or you can get the source now."
Has this really gotten that much better for games since about a year ago when I last checked it? Back then it seemed like only the major stuff worked like counter strike, WoW and maybe every other source game was at least passable. I don't even know if TF2 worked that well when I checked it out.
WoW is not a "source game" you nigger. If it is, give me the source code for it or STFU.
I hada similar experience when I switched. At first, I told people I was "bi-curious". But after 6 months of nothing but cock and dude ass, I realized I had no interest in tits or pussy. I've been a gay penguin ever since.
Look, as a middle-aged Linux user, my mother only gives me so much of an allowance each week. So either I can choose to eat Cheetos and drink Mountain Dew this week, or I can choose to buy CrossOver. I can't do both, dammit!
No you don't nothing works on WINE,not even in Linux. Was trying to use it for years. It's just getting worst to be honest.
I sat down in front of a computer running Windows 7 for the first time today. I was...I guess you could say I was impressed. Impressed at how absolutely awful it was! Never mind the "it's new, where the fuck are the menus, buttons, and shit I've been using for 15 years," or that the windows theme is so ugly only a blind mother could love it. It's simply unusable: piece of shit crashed--as in reboot the fucker--twice. Now windows apologists like to blame 3rd party aps, and there certainly is plenty of blame to spread there. However the two crashes were 100% Microsoft: a crash caused by me attempting to close a folder window (click. WTF? click. Um, click pause...WTF? Ctrl+Alt+Del CRASH! Power button and fuck you) and the POS photo edit package that can't identify .jpg files, but can lock the fucking computer. This is what I expect from Microsoft, as does everybody who's computer literate: the initial release is an alpha, service pack 1 is a beta, and service pack 2 is the product that should have been released. It's been that way since Win98 (Win95 on the other hand was a godsend: pirated alpha tests were preferred over Win 3.11). Windows 7 won't be ready for use for another two years. So why the fuck shouldn't everyone use the best available Windows: XP.
Traitor. Please give me your longitude and latitude so I can find you and beat you to death with a stuffed penguin. :)
You installed XP? You've been on /. for that long and you don't know how to pirate Windows 7? You are obviously too fucking stupid to run Linux.
Time to get 3G! You tea-smoking cockbagger!
And an ethical business model. Oh, wait.
for a 10+ year old game
Correction: 8 year old game. Whatever.
IE7 and IE8 works better than Firefox does on your precious Linux, dipshit.
Windows 7 is really expensive for the service pack that it is.
"Very very broken and I don't have time to fix it."
This pretty much describes the entire open source development philosophy in a single statement. Wine is just another broken app in a long line of broken apps that will never get finished or work in a way even close to what the app's stated goals are.
