It's Official — AMD Will Retire the ATI Brand

J. Dzhugashvili writes "A little over four years have passed since AMD purchased ATI. In May of last year, AMD took the remains of the Canadian graphics company and melded them into a monolithic products group, which combined processors, graphics, and platforms. Now, AMD is about to take the next step: kill the ATI brand altogether. The company has officially announced the move, saying it plans to label its next generation of graphics cards 'AMD Radeon' and 'AMD FirePro,' with new logos to match. The move has a lot to do with the incoming arrival of products like Ontario and Llano, which will combine AMD processing and graphics in single slabs of silicon."

Because to all those currently praying for some reason for the demise of ATI, they do. I can hook up my HD 5770 to my receiver and get sound and video in one. As of a few months ago no nVidia cards offered this.

I think ATI was a more reputable brand than AMD that has to carry Defeated-by-Intel badge for years.

as I said before, there's no more cowardly group of people than the geeks of America. u deserve your imminent demise.
You can't (or you won't) accept it's all coming down around u - the end of Java, the end of MySQL, the end of ATI the end of open office (coming soon I think - ""Sun"" - Sun was already targeted), what's next? Apache? Linux?
Probably, it was a long-term strategic ambition of the European royal families to usurp unix with linux so they could slowly destroy linux. I predict they will try to this through Ubuntu ("one").They will unify try to the linuxes into one, and take it over. Ubuntu is primed for this. Anyway, they don't really need to worry about linux - low market share.

And you refuse assistance. Steve Jobbs wasn't just using darwin for the fun of it. It was to get u not to use linux - away from the care of university protection.
HTML 5 - to reinvigorate the market with fresh developers, and cut out some of the backwater.
you will all attack this post if u read it (which u won't) to continue the denial. you are cowards. you will stand and watch as the last pillars of open technology are taken from u.

The only programming left available to u will be impotent little ajax crap for facebook, or gamebook (the game of life) or whatever they're planning next. You will be wanking off with your little make-believe mage on your ipad with your pants down in ur moms negative equity, foreclosed basement when the gorillas come through and kick u in the nuts and take your stuff, at best.
