India Now Wants Access To Google and Skype

crabel writes "A couple of weeks ago India went after RIM and its mail service; it has extended its hunger for data now to all telecommunications. All telecom companies have to give them access to all voice over IP services that go in/out or happen within the country. Heck, they are even going after VPNs used by corporate employees working remotely."

If you cherrypick instances of hate, no country in the world is a liberal democracy, not even the USA. Ground Zero Mosque, Mexicans, Blacks, racism, yada yada yada... you get the point. All countries go through problems in their history - some big, some small. The USA has allied with some terrible dictatorships, and still does (Saudi Arabia, for example). That doesn't mean the US is not 'so democratic'. The USA is indeed democratic, while those dictatorships are totalitarian states! Simple.

Not a single Soviet soldier set foot on Indian soil. They never had any say in Indian politics or internal affairs. India was never part of a pact like Warsaw pact. So, allied is too strong a word to use. Anyway, that's just nitpicking. The point here is, your argument was flawed, in that India is 'not democratic' because it allied with the Soviets decades back, and with good reason.

Agreed. Because of a very non-transparent(for the lack of a good word) administration, people just buy into whatever current administration sells them.
For India its always choosing between better evil.
Also corruption in India is like flu infected household(i.e we keep infecting each other), populace are enormously corrupt, people take money/personal favors/liquor and sell their votes to politicians and political leaders in turn spend tax payers money for themselves and then tax system is itself a big mess, Bureaucrats corrupt politicians and politicians corrupt Bureaucrats.
