DDoS From 4chan Hits MPAA and Anti-Piracy Website

ACKyushu writes "Say what you like about 4chan; when they want something done, it gets done. Following a call to arms yesterday, the masses inhabiting the anonymous 4chan boards have carried out a huge assault on a pair of anti-piracy enemies. The website of Aiplex Software, the anti-piracy outfit which has been DDoSing torrent sites recently, fell victim to a DDoS itself. They were joined in the Internet wasteland by the MPAA's website, which also fell to a huge and sustained attack."

But not as effective as starting a rumor that they drew a picture of Mohammed. (Not the terrorist that flew a plane into the WTC, the pedophile that he's named after.)

I think this adequately illustrates the point made a few days ago questioning Why so many terrorists are engineers? Technical people seem to think that their beliefs are correct and everyone else is wrong far more often than other professional classes. Anonymous is just an expression of that. They believe they are right and are justified in attacking others based on their belief.

It's truly bizarre in my mind. What drives people to such black and white thinking?

Perhaps they view ethics and morality as formula or algorithm in which there is only a single correct answer, and then somehow translate an inappropriate response to it.

I think you need to read the referenced article. I'm not asserting that engineers are more likely to be terrorists, it's a proven fact.

So i finally checked out 4chan. 4chan seems to have a large amount of what I can only hope ISN'T underage porn.

So it's neat that they're taking down the big bad MPAA and the small insignificant Aiplex and apparently the RIAA later on today, but they have child porn on their site, so fuck them. I never thought I'd say this, but the whole "don't use torrent sites because it makes us mad" position of the MPAA doesn't really seem too bad now. Thanks 4chan for moving me one large step closer to being sympathetic to the MPAA et. al. I hope 4chan gets taken down so hard by whatever international law enforcement agency might care about this kind of thing, if one exists.
