DuckDuckGo Search Engine Erects Tor Hidden Service

An anonymous reader writes "Viewable with Tor installed, search engine DuckDuckGo has erected a hidden service for secure, encrypted searches through the Tor network. While past attempts at hidden service search engines failed due to uptime or quality issues, DuckDuckGo marks the first time a real company operating a public search engine has offered a solid search engine as a hidden service for Tor users."

So wouldnt the point of a Tor hidden search engine be that it can not be identified?

With duckyducky the easiest way to subpoena or demand filtering, take downs etc is to send them an email or snail, or for local law enforcement to arrive at their office. Or contact their ISP etc.

Nothing is hidden about this search engine, Tor is useless in this scenario.

I thought I would check out DuckDuckGo and was going to try a few searches see what it was like. I hit the letter C and immediately 5 suggestions came up and the first three were as follows. "Child, "Child Porn", "Child sex"

Suddenly I'm not so convinced encrypted searches are such a great idea.
