Bloglines Shutdown Avoided
angry tapir writes "Pioneer RSS feed manager Bloglines will continue operating thanks to a last-minute agreement for MerchantCircle to take over operation of the service from Ask.com. Ask.com, which announced it would shut down Bloglines by Oct. 1 and then postponed the closure several times, said that MerchantCircle, an online network for local business owners, will manage Bloglines starting in December."

Freedom of speech, whether it suits your point of view / values or not.
If you feel the need to take that or other liberties away from those you disagree with, then you become the oppressor.
It is that simple folks.
The most effective, passive non controlling way to minimize the impact of someone else's beliefs is to ignore it.
It sounds simple and boring, however it is far more a challenge in life to control ones self than to control someone else.

Who gives a damn about those who come (are born) after you and all the information they should have a right to sift through just like you did.
Note to self: delete Bloglines account before the data harvest begins.
Of course, the problem here is that once I heard they were shutting down, I found a new RSS feed reader. And guess what? I'm not switching back. And I'm pretty confident I'm not alone on this one.
Thank god bloglines remains.. there were 10's of dollars at stake
When Bloglines first annouced the shutdown I looked for a good replacment (didn't like Google Reader) and found an open source solution. I installed Tiny Tiny RSS on a shared hosting account and it's as good as Bloglines, better, actually because the uptime is greater. http://tt-rss.org/redmine/
Out of laziness I switched to Google Reader. Now out of laziness I don't feel like switching back. I'll bet most people are in this boat (switched already.) So much for a last-minute save for Bloglines.
