Bloglines Shutdown Avoided

angry tapir writes "Pioneer RSS feed manager Bloglines will continue operating thanks to a last-minute agreement for MerchantCircle to take over operation of the service from Ask.com. Ask.com, which announced it would shut down Bloglines by Oct. 1 and then postponed the closure several times, said that MerchantCircle, an online network for local business owners, will manage Bloglines starting in December."

Oh for Christ's sake. A website going out of business for lack of income is hardly evidence of "them" censoring or oppressing you. The world does not owe you a forum in perpetuity for your rambling musings. If they're actually interesting, someone will keep them alive. 99.999% of all blogs are egotistical bullshit, They just have a larger vocabulary (and LOTS and LOTS more words) than your average tweet.

With that said: if you want a perpetual forum for rambling musings, there is web hosting. It comes with a bill, but it's like eight bucks a month and it has so many uses.

When Bloglines first annouced the shutdown I looked for a good replacment (didn't like Google Reader) and found an open source solution. I installed Tiny Tiny RSS on a shared hosting account and it's as good as Bloglines, better, actually because the uptime is greater. http://tt-rss.org/redmine/
