High School Plans To Open Drug Clinic
Most high school students can go to study hall if they don't have a scheduled class but officials at William Floyd high school in New York want them to be able to go to drug rehab instead. If the proposed plan goes into effect, William Floyd will be the first high school to have a drug counseling clinic.
I can just see it now. New story about how the school has the most drug addicts in the nation. Kyle: "What are you having for lunch today" John: "oh nothing much just some adderall"
Please fix it !
Divide a cake by zero. Is it still a cake?
About time we started dealing with drugs more effectively. Clearly going after the suppliers isn't working (qv 20yo girl is police chief because the drug gangs rule mexico) so instead, take away the market. With no demand, it's not profitable to make it.
You really wanna save thousands of lives a year, across the world? Make them all legal. Make them prescription-only, regulate them, tax them, let doctors manage them. Let the big drug companies produce and supply pure drugs in reliable delivery mechanisms. No way that organised crime will be able to complete with the big pharma corps. No more deaths due to heroin cut with ajax, no more deaths because the cartels are trying to protect their illegal crops.
Why can't we let people believe whatever they like? It's not like a little religion has ever hurt anyone.
Methamphetamine is already available with a prescription, yet there's a huge market for non-pharmaceutical, clandestinely manufactured product.
Might the reason for the "huge market..." be that the prescription drugs are A) over-priced B) over-regulated (too hard to get the prescription) C) both?
I think that the best solution would be more along the lines of a psuedo-pharmacy. They have to be licensed, they have to check some sort of ID, but anyone can buy the drugs. Each time a customer makes a purchase it's logged into a database, and if a customer purchases more than x volume they get a call from the equivalent of AAA. Kind of like alcohol and tobacco sales but with an extra little measure.
The government gets its tax money, the drug lords don't get theirs, prison over-crowding is alleviated, and finally there's a valve to help those who have a drug use problem get out of it.
Cant type more than four words without wrapping
Your idea doesn't go too far enough.
Put the crack smack and meth next to the tylenol and sudafed. Put a skull and crossbones on it so it can be easily recognized, even by illiterates. Wait a generation. The problem will solve itself.

I really could have used someone to counsel me on where to get the best drugs from when I was in high school! Some things kids just shouldn't be allowed to pick up off the streets!
I've abandoned my search for truth; now I'm just looking for some useful delusions.
Simply put, you should be able to write prescriptions for yourself, based on the principle that you have a right to put poisons into your own body. However, you should still have to pick them up at a pharmacy with proof of ID, so the pharmacy computer can check for adverse drug interactions and make sure you're not buying more than is suitable for a single person's consumption. However, they should probably also alert the DMV to put an automatic hold on your driver's license if you are receiving any sort of substance that impairs your driving. This is one of my biggest problems with the medical marijuana system in California... if your going to issue medical marijuana identification, have the DMV do it -- they are already set up to issue ID, and they really should suspend the driving privileges of anyone they know is going to be using marijuana on a daily basis. Want to drive? Turn in your medical marijuana card.

I thought the entire point of AAA was that you had to be willing to be helped by them, for them to come and help you. Personally, I use Jerry instead when I need a car towed and I know the owner isn't going to be happy about it. I don't know if it's the tattoos on his face, the shot-gun rack on his tow truck, or the super aggressive pit bull by his side, but uncooperative people become really polite and even helpful once he gets there
And that makes perfect sense considering that most folks use their drivers license to buy alcohol.
So you think that big pharma is somehow better than the drug cartel? The only difference between them is legality. It shouldn't be regulated at all, save perhaps some agency that tests and labels the drugs so that folks know what they are buying exactly, and in what quantity. Let the free market regulate it. Addicts will be addicts regardless of law. The best thing we can do is try to help people be safe, and rid ourselves from the underground.
Which is pretty much the angle I was coming from.
There will always be people that take drugs just as there will always be people that pay money for sex and people that are prepared to sell sex.
By legalising and regulating the drugs that are currently illegal, we can dramatically reduce the number of accidental deaths due to overdose and drug related crime. Also the drugs can be taxed which will offset the cost of regulating it and we get to save a stupid amount of dollars that are currently being ineffectively on the global war on drugs.
Finally... 30,000 people killed in one Mexican province due to cartel activity and a 20 year old girl is now the chief of police because no one else will take the job. Please tell me we can do better than this.
Why can't we let people believe whatever they like? It's not like a little religion has ever hurt anyone.

Yes, because doctors never kill anyone by accident.
Organized crime does not "compete" with anyone except other organized crime.
Perhaps you should look at the death statistics for prescription drugs before you start worrying about deaths from ajax. You might see that a doctors prescription pad is the #1 killer in "drugs" today. Sorry, but giving big pharma even more control to get even more people horribly addicted to their product? Fuck that.
If you want to address a real problem, then realize in the time it took you to read this, 4-5 people died from tobacco use. Give big pharma the same level of power and control over their product, and they too will be killing people in the hundreds of thousands every year.
I also fail to see the difference between a nation of "mixed" legal and illegal drug addicts vs. an entire nation full of nothing but twice as many drug addicts as before, only now they're all legal...
