High School Plans To Open Drug Clinic

Most high school students can go to study hall if they don't have a scheduled class but officials at William Floyd high school in New York want them to be able to go to drug rehab instead. If the proposed plan goes into effect, William Floyd will be the first high school to have a drug counseling clinic.

Might the reason for the "huge market..." be that the prescription drugs are A) over-priced B) over-regulated (too hard to get the prescription) C) both?

I think that the best solution would be more along the lines of a psuedo-pharmacy. They have to be licensed, they have to check some sort of ID, but anyone can buy the drugs. Each time a customer makes a purchase it's logged into a database, and if a customer purchases more than x volume they get a call from the equivalent of AAA. Kind of like alcohol and tobacco sales but with an extra little measure.

The government gets its tax money, the drug lords don't get theirs, prison over-crowding is alleviated, and finally there's a valve to help those who have a drug use problem get out of it.

Simply put, you should be able to write prescriptions for yourself, based on the principle that you have a right to put poisons into your own body. However, you should still have to pick them up at a pharmacy with proof of ID, so the pharmacy computer can check for adverse drug interactions and make sure you're not buying more than is suitable for a single person's consumption. However, they should probably also alert the DMV to put an automatic hold on your driver's license if you are receiving any sort of substance that impairs your driving. This is one of my biggest problems with the medical marijuana system in California... if your going to issue medical marijuana identification, have the DMV do it -- they are already set up to issue ID, and they really should suspend the driving privileges of anyone they know is going to be using marijuana on a daily basis. Want to drive? Turn in your medical marijuana card.
