Gentlemen Prefer Androids, Ladies iOS

Ponca City writes "PC World reports that women are more likely to buy an iPhone for their next smartphone purchase, while men prefer Android devices. According to data collected in October 2010, 31 percent of women wanted to buy an Apple iOS device next, followed by 22.8 percent interested in a Google Android device while among men preferences were reversed with 32.6 percent of men interested in an Android purchase and 28.6 desired an iOS phone. 'So where is the extra appeal of Android to men coming from?' asks Tracey E. Schelmetic. 'More male-targeted commercials that emphasize cool gadgetry versus usability? More techno-macho phone brand names like "Droid"? Extra advertising on the Spike channel by phone makers using the Android platform?'"

I agree, and in viewing women from afar and studying their social and mating habits I have come to find that the following is true
Popular = feigning dumb. By the time these women are out of High school they tend to continue this behavior, sure they graduated at the top of their class. But they really only have book smarts and elitist social understanding. They lack the common sense that is required to operate a Droid.
Of course this follows the 80/20 rule, where 20% of women are indeed smart and of course read slashdot.

I do tech support so I am always either getting questions or hearing about tech stuff from the clients I support. So a married couple (both just average Joe and Jane users) decide to upgrade to smart phones. She goes to BestBuy gets a new iPhone for her and the android model her hubby wants. That night she is busy setting up her phone - downloading some apps - taking pics and emailing them - etc. Meanwhile hubby is getting uber frustrated trying to get anything to work on the droid etc. The next day she returns the droid and buys another iPhone for hubby ...

I'm no fan boy and I have issues with many things Apple does - but they do understand the user / customer experience

More likely it is because women tend to do things based upon emotion, while men tend to use a more logical approach. This is not an insult, nor does it make men somehow better than women, but it is a reasonable explanation IMNSHO.

Most people can safely ignore this guy.

In the last few days I have seen him:

Try to defend Linux security practices, which basically boil down to not disclosing bugs and relying on obscurity

Try to insist the word hacker has absolutly nothing to do with breaking computer security and all those people using it are wrong

I saw a previous discussion where he insulted a programmer by saying he should get a software engineer to explains things to him (which is a meaningless feelgood phrase).

Now he he says some sexist bullshit, which has no scientific backing at all.

My oh my how /. has fallen.

This saddens me. It is because of this way of thinking people buy the iPhone as well. So really you are lumping yourself with the same non-tech savvy people that could give a rats ass about functionality and form as well as usability and futuristic use.
This is the basic reason I dislike Apple. Because it has built itself a fan base, that for the most part are sad little shills, more people are suckered into its baby sitting hand holding. Then they cover it with a condom wrapper and everyone thinks it is the best thing ever. Now you get a phone that is monopolized by the very company you overpaid to get the stupid thing.

You drop $300-$500 on a phone that you will be tied to for at least two years, you better know what you are getting into. Just sayin..
