Mac Malware Evolves - No Install Password Required
An anonymous reader writes "The latest versions of the Mac Defender malware attacks no longer require users to enter their admin credentials (username and password) upon install. A threat called 'Mac Guard' installs itself into areas of the Mac OS X system that only require standard user privilege. On Windows the criminals did this to avoid UAC warnings, and have copied this trick to their Mac OS X releases."
The Apple store might pretend to be surprised by this, anyway, considering that they're still not allowed to tell customers that Mac malware exists.

Also, why does the definition of what a Mac is relate to how long someone has been in a coma?
This has been going on since the time of the 100% IBM Clone, somewhere around 20 years ago when nobody was buying Atari STs anymore and Amigas were starting to show their age. When you talk to any person on the planet today, and you say PC, you are saying 'Windows machine". It's like if somebody from the 1920's suddenly appeared today and said "I went on a picnic with my father. We had a gay time gobbling wieners!", the first thing you'd hear is not what he was intending to say.
