Linus Renames 2.6.40 Kernel To Linux 3.0, Announces Release Candidate

An anonymous reader writes "Linus just released the first -rc of the next kernel series, but rather than continuing development as the Linux 2.6.40 kernel, he has renamed it to be the Linux 3.0 kernel." And he's tacked on a second dot and another zero (3.0.0), at least for now, because many scripts expect and rely on a three-part kernel version.

Actually, whilst it wasn't the funniest wisecrack I've ever read on here, it was mildly amusing - so I defend that person's right to make it.

Plus it's basically just your opinion and actually got bugger all to do with you (or me for that matter) on the basis that by virtue of us having posted a comment here, neither of us will have the ability to use or not use any mod points on it anyway.

So if he/she does earn karma for the comment, it will be from neither of us - and by the sounds coming from you, it definitely looks like someone or something has taken a good shit on or in something you own, so you might be better off going to find out who or what it was, then get over it and come back when you are a bit more cheerful.
