Nissan LEAF Leaks Speed & Location To RSS Feed

thecarchik writes "An intrepid tinkerer has discovered yet another security issue with the Nissan Leaf: it could be revealing your location and speed to websites around the globe. The issue stems from CARWINGS, the telematics system that Nissan devised for the Leaf. '... when Leaf owners use Nissan's RSS reader to access sites like CNN, the New York Times, or this one, CARWINGS supplies ... the exact location of the vehicle — latitude and longitude — and even the speed at which the vehicle is traveling at the time of the request.'"

You've been looking at the leaf. Do you know about the $5000+ special charger that their electrician MUST install at a premium rate? There are others you can buy but Nissan tries like hell to invalidate your warranty if you don't use their blessed charger installed by their holy electrician.

I looked at it until I realized that it's HORRIBLY overpriced for what it is. its a $50,000 (after you buy everything it needs) subcompact car that has 3/4 the range it claims it has if you drive it normally, and 1/2 the range if you touch a highway at 70mph. One of the overpaid sales guys at work has one. He stroked his green-ness for 2 months with it... now he bitches about it and stopped driving it as it stranded him on the highway with a dead battery.
