Linux Foundation Sites Restored
LinuxScribe writes "The Linux Foundation has quietly restored all of the websites it took down following the September 2011 breach that affected Linux.com and all other Foundation websites--an attack that was linked to the August 2011 breach of kernel.org. But one website won't be coming back: the Linux Developer Network, launched in 2008. Content from the site will now be hosted across all of the Linux Foundation's web properties."
...is still down, which is IMHO a huge problem for the Linux kernel as bug reports (and even patches) just vanish into thin air...
This is about the Linux Foundation sites, not kernel.org.
Why has the Linux Foundation not offered an explanation for what went wrong and how the intruders gained access? Specifically, how could the intruders root the servers starting from compromised user credentials as has been alleged?
Reading slashdot one-liner: (irm http://rss.slashdot.org/Slashdot/slashdot).rdf.item | fl title,desc*
Can only imagine what would happen to me at my job if it took 3 months to get everything back up and running. I have seen 3 days do people in.
I think it's fairly safe to read this as a joke. In other words:
WHOOSH!
I suspect that answers the request for postmortem.
Unless Fools be at large.
Blah blah blah
At least, they don't have problems like this.
Is bugzilla.kernel.org not supposed to be reachable yet?
get a life mate. i doubt anyone even reads your gibberish let alone agree with it.
btw, did you catch this one:
http://tech.slashdot.org/story/12/01/05/0037233/nginx-overtakes-microsoft-as-no-2-web-server
that's gotta suck
Impossible 2 argue w/ facts he posts though. U got so "hot" about it but truth's like that sometimes n it hurts Mr. Penisguin, lol!
Seems yer gettin' a bit hot there waldo, lol. See subject.

I *so* wish I was brave enough to login and post "Mod parent up" !!!
The concern is that someone publicly pointing out the 'nix isn't the fantabulous end all solution to software woes for the next millenium will upset the Microsoft-hating Linux fanboi's proclamations otherwise.
guns don't kill people - people (can) kill people (with guns)
Microsoft doesn't equal insecure software per se` - poorly used/configured software (OR shitty software ) is insecure software.
In both cases - the dimwit 'in control' is at fault.
Kudo's to the other anonymous coward for taking the time to spend a few minutes googling and copy/paste links.
bugzilla.kernel.org is still down
where's your APK sig? or are you just one of his fanboi fuck buddies?
wow you had to reply 4 times before you were satisfied with yourself. hit a nerve did i douche?
btw i could waste a week or more filling up your browser with facts about flaws in microsoft products, but i'd rather go have sex... with a woman
If only he had posted this once, maybe someone would take it seriously, but now he just looks like a douchebag.
I'm all for an open internet and everything, but it just takes one moron to ruin the whole thing for many others.
The obvious solutions to prevent this kind of abuse would degrade the whole experience for everybody else:
- require registration to submit comments (no more AC)
- even more restrictions on submitting comments than what we currently have
Where's ur brain? U leave it on toilet paper u flushed this a.m.?
He kicked 'penisguins' butts around here didn't he?
Wow. Get a life.

And windows has never, ever been hacked.
Seriously, it's time slashdot implemented an apk filter. If your spam filter allows trolls like him to shit all over a discussion, it ain't working. IP Blocking == fine with me.
no actually, i agree that it just makes you sound like a douche. you've also pretty much destroyed the entire discussion of this topic.
whatever point you were trying to make (regardless of its truth) is completely lost in all your spam posting (why the hell do you sign everything with apk anyway? you're just making your spam even more obvious - it certainly doesn't improve your reputation any)
anyone reading now is only (morbidly) curious about how pathetic your responses are to criticism, and they have reached a new level of pathetic, even for a known troll and spammer like you
if you weren't such an idiot i would actually enjoy a good argument with you. learn how to spell and construct sentences, and for god's sake lose all the fucking capitalization, bold and symbols - a sprinkling is ok, but your flood of them just makes your post complete nonsense. nothing you say is true, but you will disagree only because you are a douche, and because you believe a bunch of spam you found of a spam website (or you just made it up). you are full of shit. you're facts aren't facts, they are nonsense and spam.
lol wonder how many posts this will attract. should be good for a laugh
No one said that except u. Slashdot penguins said Linux=Secure stuff for years though, n look what came to pass. LMAO. Ah yes, the "price of 'FUD'"'s eating ur words boys.
Have u considered decaf? If u can't handle facts posted don't read 'em! Wipe the foam off ur mouth n' take ur meds boy!
LMAO, see subject-line, & accept 1 thing: NOTHING stops apk. You certainly couldn't. He didn't shit on the discussion, he shit on YOU, easily. Just "too, Too, TOO EASILY" in fact. Your childish wuss reaction shows anyone that much!
Nothing stops apk, least of all you. Accept it. APK ghosts his way in here everytime right past any blockades. In case you hadn't noticed, apk only posts as ac, so put on your glasses, engage your brain, and see his posts are under the ac flag.

Windows is the MOST USED, thus, it's going to be attacked... that's common-sense, that the MOST USED OS will be most attacked by malware makers (more possible victims to snag is why, just like pickpockets operate in train/bus stations, malls, & crowded city streets rather than "crowds of 1 only").
FUNNIEST PART HERE IS THIS: ANDROID's being exploited RAMPANTLY by malware, ANDROID is the #1 most used OS on smartphones, & ANDROID IS A LINUX VARIANT (uses a Linux core) & proves my point on smartphones & that Linux too can & WILL be exploited by malware (though for years on /. all you heard was FUD like "Linux = Secure" well... android shows otherwise!).

Takes 1,000's of those, but, a SQLServer 2005 + Windows Server 2003 failover cluster (not 1,000's of systems) runs NASDAQ's "Official Trade Data Dissemination System" & has for 8++ yrs. now... NASDAQ QMX only opened in October (remains to be seen IF it provides the non-stop 99.999% uptime the Windows System has yielded thusfar).

Plain & simple: You "f'd up" because CERN runs their website on Windows, NOT LINUX (and Linux is supposed to be the "most used server" (yea, because it costs zero is why, & that's the ONLY reason which is why smaller companies tend to use it, to cut costs)).

NASDAQ QMX has only been w/ those Linux rigs since October (remains to be seen how they do & IF they can manage what Windows has above, which is common-knowledge & a testimonial of strength in uptime).

Question: How's "bugzilla" doing?
Answer: It's DOWN FOR THE COUNT (on Linux)
Nope. For one https://bugzilla.kernel.org is up and running. For two, the bugzilla PROJECT is hosted at http://www.bugzilla.org and is totally independent of kernel.org (kernel.org uses it, just like you use Windows, that doesn't make Windows a stupid troll like you). So your posts are pointless and obviously trollish. That or you're too dense to understand it.
APK EPIC FAIL... period!
Only TODAY (1/6/2012) did bugzilla come "back online", & proof of that's here:

http://uptime.netcraft.com/up/graph?site=bugzilla.kernel.org
(So... Maybe NOW it's up, but it wasn't when this article came out, lol... & others' proofs of that quoted or linked to -> http://linux.slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=2604450&cid=38591446 show that much per my last post...!)
* LOL - U LOSE/U FAIL!
(Face it - Linux only gets used where MOSTLY "smallish" companies try to save monies on costs of software, but per this link -> http://linux.slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=2604450&cid=38607134 ? That tells a "little different story" now, doesn't it?? Yes, it does!)
Also?
On PC desktops, Linux only has a 1.29% marketshare -> http://www.netmarketshare.com/report.aspx?qprid=10&qptimeframe=M&qpsp=155
So what LITTLE GAIN it has @ 70% of the server market doesn't matter - There's far, Far, FAR MORE DESKTOP/HOME PC's, by FAR, using Windows over Linux... roughly 85-95% on Windows last I checked (& the server market can't even BEGIN to touch that use count, there's less servers than desktops is why...).
