Greg KH Leaves SUSE For Linux Foundation

New submitter udas writes "Greg Kroah-Hartman, maintainer of the Linux kernel's stable branch, has left his job with SUSE Linux. He is now a fellow at the Linux Foundation. 'There were no direct conflicts working for SUSE, as the people there understand how important the individual developer, and their voice, is in the Linux community,' Kroah-Hartman told Ars this week in an e-mail interview. 'But, working in a vendor-neutral environment like the Linux Foundation allows me to spend a larger amount of time interacting with other companies and vendors, as well as helping Linux out in environments that were not necessarily the focus of my previous employer.'"

Novell purchased the SUSE brand/trademark in 03. Novell has since been purchased by Attachmate.

Honestly Greg has been one of the best software engineering person to follow . He is responsible for so many subsystems. the way he accepts suggestions , gives advice is great. I wish him all the best for Linux Foundation. That, and he's a really cool guy overall, he even carried beers and pizza for us after openSUSE conference (he's a really big guy, like 2 meters tall). I'm sad to see him leave SUSE, but I hope he can keep on doing the great job he does.

I second that. It was him that included my first kernel driver ( http://kerneltrap.org/mailarchive/linux-driver-devel/2010/8/5/6885969 ). He is also a Gentoo developer belonging to the kernel team: http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/kernel/

You were probably at the Attachmate company website and not the Attachmate Group website. Attachmate is one of four companies owned by the Attachmate Group, the other three are NetIQ, Novell, and SuSE. You can find the Attachmate Group website here: http://www.attachmategroup.com/
