Microsoft Won't Say If Skype Is Secure Or Not. Time To Change?

Microsoft was granted a patent a month after purchasing Skype that covers 'legal intercept' technology designed to be used with VOIP services. Is it time to consider more secure alternatives like Jitsi like Tor's Jacob Appelbaum suggests?"
I am a regular user of Jitsi, in fact it has replaced my day-to-day use of Skype.
I am in a long-distance relationship, so video chat is essential. My girlfriend, a snow-white Swedish woman, lives in New York City.
