First time accepted submitter Goat_Cheese_Pizza writes "Word on the Intertubes (I picked the Washington Post) is Joss Whedon's musical masterpiece, Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, will air on CW's primetime lineup on October 9th. I've always wanted to watch Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog with commercials! Thanks, CW!"

(Seriously, they all deserve a little pay-back for what was a free project to start with, fair enough!)

Why? Do you believe every successful artist needs to be paid for every project they attempt? Is there some natural law somewhere that anytime a well-paid artist doodles on a pad he is entitled (or as you say, "deserves") to have checks start rolling in?

I don't know what the Horrible Singing Blog is, and it may indeed turn out to be one of the canonical and transcendental works art in Western Civilization, but statistically 100% of artists (+ or - .1%) do their work for free every day. This Josh Whedon needs to be the exception? Really?

Even successful artists once and a while just do their work and give it away, as an indication of their humanity and to prove that they are not just hacks looking to squeeze every nickel out of the teenagers who consume their...product.

Or maybe he didn't get paid enough for The Avengers and needs to sell off some of his old projects in order to make the money he owes to that brothel in Thailand.

Or maybe somebody saw an early edit of Much Ado about Nothing and realized that if his big-budget "retelling" of the great Shakespeare play doesn't do big business with little girls and Apple users he may have to go back to being a clown at kids' birthday parties and he's trying to monetize anything he ever put on film before anyone notices.
