An anonymous reader writes "After a successful funding run at Kickstarter, the final chapter of the Star Wars fan film Pink Five is committed to a release date of January 1, 2013. Great news for the followers of this great webseries."

I loved the Pink Five series and it always made me sad the saga wasn't finished. I'm really looking forward to the last part of Episode VI.

  Can't speak for the AC but I also love this series. You're going to smell a lot of shit if you judge everything by how shitty it is. Explains that look on your face, it does.

  Don't speak for the AC... but I didn't really find the video clip all that funny... actually, I found it pretty juvenile. But different people have different senses of humour, and I can see how it would appeal to some people.
  And that's the crux of it... my taste in movies is generally pretty cerebral, and I don't really like any American-made comedies, except for once-every-few-year gems that stand out amongst the crap. Off the top of my head, I can't think of an American-made comedy that I enjoyed in the last several years, but there's plenty of films from other English-speaking countries that I liked (and quite a few that weren't in English). And there's the problem... most American comedy tends towards low brow humour, and while there's an audience for it, it doesn't appeal to me.
  That being said, good on them. I don't speak for the entire movie-going populace, and given that they're funded by a kickstarter, it's pretty obvious that they do have a fanbase who wants to see it done.

They're the ones making the movie, so I don't really have the right to say it's a waste of time and effort. But the first thought that comes to my mind when I see a competently done, if not altogether well-made, "fan" movie or other fan-made media project is why haven't they expended the same amount of time, effort and yes money on something that might lead to a legal suit or a C&D. Sure anybody can get hit by a copyright troll, but fan media are clearly in the darker side of the fair use grey zone.
How much harder would it be to make Iron Sky when you already have the special effects knowhow to make yet another Star Wars/Star Trek spoof?

  Thank god that they don't let the fear of bullying prevent them from doing something that is perfectly legal and appropriate.
  If they would have knuckled under to the possibility of a letter from a lawyer, they would have let assholes win and sometimes, that's all the reason you need.
  Whenever I see a "fan" movie, I think of the mind-warping "Karen Carpenter Story" made by the great Todd Haynes. No Hollywood studio was going to touch such an unauthorized biopic, so the guy ended up making it with barbie dolls and cheap video at his house, even in the face of threats (empty) from the Carpenter estate and legal trolls and it ended up being something wonderful (though not for everyone's taste).
  Not everything has to cater to the expectations of Hollywood norms. Not everything has to satisfy everyone. I could give a shit about Star Wars, but I salute anyone who puts that kind of work into their vision of something, not because it's great art, but because they followed through on something that wasn't easy and almost certainly was a lot of fun to make. Who knows, maybe the next "fan" movie will be something great and enduring, or at least inspiring.
  I really, really don't want to think that there's some artist out there, or even hobbyist who will hesitate or not do some work, even something as trivial as "Star Wars fan fiction", because legal industry trolls have stifled them.

  When you start complaining about how Star Wars now isn't as good as Star Wars back then, YOU may have jumped a shark. In a land speeder. Star Wars is always good. Canon is over-rated. I'll read the comics, the books, watch the cartoons and you know what - none of it has an impact, or changes in any way, my love of the original trilogy. Those other three films by body-snatched, Cylon George.... not canon.

  Since "Skywalker Sound" is credited for post production, I think we can assume they have that sorted.
  Anyway, after watching the first episode, it's pretty crap; without the Star Wars jokes it'd be complete crap.

  I think it was more "if you have any sort of talent, make something new instead of riding the coattails of others" sentiment. But then, this attitude is horribly out of fashion, so much so that anyone espousing it is opened to ridicule.

  Agreed on the first episode. They should probably remake it.
  The second episode is only slightly better.
  But then episode three starts hitting on all cylinders as a comedy.
  And all the sudden, after that the character came alive (partially her acting of the character got better and plus the character grew up and the writing got better). The writers hit the line between goofy and cool more consistently.
  There were still some over the line parts (like her ship breaking the way it did in the deathstar 2 bay) (but they seem to like it since they put it in their trailer- I thought it was a bit dumb).
  The last episode was quite good tho still not professional level- it was better than the anakin skywalker episode 1,2,3 series (how could so many excellent actors be bullied in to acting so poorly in one series of films)
  Despite the fact that lucas has sucked over time, his willingness to allow fan films has been a great positive.

  Sure it's good.. but they could have made up something new instead.
  The same could be said for Robert Downy Jr. as Sherlock Holmes.

  That's something that only someone with a very poor understanding of history, and the history of stories, would say.
  We're talking about Star Wars here. In fact, Star Wars calls upon several ancient stories and archetypes for its basis. In fact, based upon your idiotic statement, I would venture to say that it's a near certainty that your favorite movies are rehashes of stories that have been told before. The number of absolutely original works of narrative is vanishingly small.

  Well, in US copyright law, fair use has to be decided on a case by case basis. Just because a work is a parody or satire does not automatically make it a fair use. There is a four prong test that's usually used for fair use decisions; you can see it at 17 USC 107.

  Hell anything Star Wars without Jar Jar or Anakin/Padame "acting" in it should be commended. I haven't got to watch this yet and can already say its better than the prequels, at least the thought of watching it isn't making my stomach roll. How anybody could ever argue about canon in Star Wars after Lucas took such a massive dump on the franchise I'll never know.
  Of course after watching some of the behind the scenes Lucas stuff on the Plinkett videos I have begun to wonder if Lucas wasn't always a complete retard that was only saved from his own dumb ideas by good collaborators that told him to STFU and tone it down some. I mean setting Indiana Jones 3 in a haunted house? I swear that's what Lucas wanted, Indy VS a haunted house...sheesh.

  Not particularly. I know it's an unpopular opinion, but I watched Star Wars in the late 90s, when I was in my early 20s and then I moved on with my life. It was fine. It was a blast. It was not something I built the rest of my life around. There's too much interesting stuff out there to get so devotedly wrapped up to a handful of movies that were great decades ago and are mediocre today. I understand this is a "fan endeavor", but I'd rather just see talented people do something original rather than build onto an exhausted and bloated franchise.

Where are people getting all this money to throw away at things like this?
Look at how many Hollywood movies, TV shows, games, fashion accessories, etc. that you or me think are a total waste. But obviously not everyone does.

However, this Pink Five is shit. If you're going to remake Starwars and give it more female protagonists, don't further the Smurfette syndrome with a stereotypical valley girl character. It's not funny, IMO; It's just sad. Granted, the ridiculousness of the situations are the point. However, If you're being ironically sexist, you're still being sexist.

Watched the first episode. It was... bad.
By the end of the fourth, I found myself wishing there were more.
As usual, it takes time (and episodes) for the script to become more relaxed, for the characters to click, and for the humour to start being, well, humorous. In a way, Pink Five reminded me of The IT Crowd and The Big Bang Theory. The first couple of episodes sucked, let's be honest. Everything felt forced and stiff. Later on, the shows evolved and they became funny.
Here's to the fifth episode, and maybe more!
