Riot Breaks Out At Foxconn
Presto Vivace writes with news (as reported by Engadget) of a riot at Foxconn's Taiyuan plant, reportedly over guards beating up a worker, and writes "Something is going on at Foxconn. Do any Slashdotters know of a good source for news about Chinese labor disputes?" Reports of the riot are also at Reuters, TUAW, and CNBC, to name a few.
The code here must suck. No matter what OS or browser I use there is always some kind of rendering issues. I don't get that from other sites.
Hmmm, I've seen that list somewhere before.
Yes, that was my original source for some of the links.
Hard to credit an AC though.
Is this now the standard reply trotted out to rebuff the iOS6 map problem?
Since people seem hell-bent on posting the Tumblr link to every possible place, no matter how inappropriate - why not? Why is the Tumblr link the only thing it's OK to repost again and again? Where the Tumblr link goes, Google's own baggage follows.
And the list will keep growing as we remember that over the years Google Maps has had many, many flaws as well, as people remember the Google map failures we have seen in our own personal lives through the years.
The other funny thing about posting that Tumblr link is that from time to time it shows Apple maps are better in some cases.
Thanks for allowing me the opportunity to point that out.
Note that as always, I'm not saying Apple's maps do not need work on fixing issues. But it's not like running back to Google solves all your problems. That's certainly not the case for 3D maps.

No one said Google maps were perfect.
They are implying that those not using Apple maps will not see similar errors.
I don't think Google were mentioned at all here before your wall of anti Google links.
In almost every post around Apple map issues the posters moan that Apple should have left Google maps in place.
It's also not a wall of "anti-Google" links. It a wall of humorous mapping errors, just like the Tumblr blog. Is that blog anti-Apple? I don't think so. But it is showing only one side of the story, I am providing the counterpoint.
However, I understand that choice is a difficult concept for those trapped in the walled garden.
Choice is an easy concept to understand; those of us in the walled garden have a lot more of it. We can chose to stay or leave, you can only choose to stay out.
Other online map providers like Bing and National Geographic are available
Or you could simply run the Bing App, or scores of other apps for that matter to find things. Again having more choice in apps overall, we understand choice quite a lot better than you can imagine since we are used to so much of it.

Yeah, all your examples are from 2010, and from cursory glance, they're all resolved
My example has not been resolved.
Also note that some of the issues on the Tumblr blog are not real either. So those should be dropped from consideration too, right?
You might think it's unfair that we're judging a map that's been out for less than a month to one that's been out for years,
I do not think that unfair at all, just as it's equally fair to compare any new mobile devices to what already exists in the market, a problem for WP8.
if you're going to release a new product it's going to be compared to what is currently available.
And if we are going to start doing such comparisons we have to be aware of issues with both the new AND the old, not just the new. Often the existing product is considered perfect simply because we have grown used to the flaws.
The fact is, there are too many errors in obvious stuff - misspelled capital cities, duplications of entire islands
Yes, there are flaws, some of them quite glaring (like city misspellings). But it's not as widespread as you make out, and it's usually off in less mainstream parts of Europe that we find most of the issues.
It's a complete abandonment of the philosophy of "It Just Works".
Of course it is. It has to be. Apple had to launch maps in a beta state, there simply is no other way to start improving it rapidly or really at all.
it's a mystery to me why this is a surprise or a big deal to anyone.
For most of the people that have the iPhone 5 though, this will not matter; local searches will generally work, places they know will generally be marked on the map correctly.
