U.S. Election Day In Progress: What's Been Your Experience?

Today is Election Day in the U.S., and polls are open even in Hawaii now. The current Slashdot poll gives a snapshot of how many readers have voted or plan to vote; more rigorous and wide-based polls are easy to find. If you're taking part in today's election, what have you found? Did you or will you vote electronically, or on paper? How long did you wait to vote? Did you vote weeks ago by mail? How much time did you put into making your choices? It would be helpful if in comments you start the subject of your post with your 2-letter state abbreviation, like this: "TX - About to go get in line to push some buttons."

in the 21st century someone who is a US citizen, with a formerly-valid drivers license, was unable to vote is a travesty.

It's unfortunate, although realistically most people have an ID and will be able to vote just fine.

The thing is that the alternative is much worse. Voting simply does not work if you allow others to game the system, voting for dead people or multiple times. Some form of ID checking is required to keep elections even close to fair.

How many people aren't even bothering to try to vote because they figure there will be ID problems?

No one does not go to vote because they think there will be "ID problems". It never comes up with anyone I talk to.

What the hell are you people doing down there to your democracy?

Keeping it from being overrun by cheaters, thank you very much. If you don't protect your voting similarly I'll wander up sometime and have a go at screwing with your elections just for the hell of it.
