Smart Guns To Stop Mass Killings

New submitter Bugs42 writes "CNN.com has an opinion piece on the possibility of cramming guns full of computers and sensors to disable them in certain buildings or around children. The author, in true mainstream media fashion, completely fails to see any possible technical problems with this. Quoting: 'How might this work? Start with locational "self-awareness." Guns should know where they are and if another gun is nearby. Global positioning systems can meet most of the need, refining a gun's location to the building level, even within buildings. Control of the gun would remain in the hand of the person carrying it, but the ability to fire multiple shots in crowded areas or when no other guns are present would be limited by software that understands where the gun is being used. Guns should also be designed to sense where they are being aimed. Artificial vision and optical sensing technology can be adapted from military and medical communities. Sensory data can be used by built-in software to disable firing if the gun is pointed at a child or someone holding a child."

and take away all gun rights from the American public.

    Let them be defenseless.

Government should be the only entity that is allowed to kill someone.

We need more government, not less government.

All the junior McVeigh's here are willing to fight for their freedom.

We liberals know that there is no such thing as "freedom".

The US has always been like any other system of government, which follow the exact power structure everywhere else, and that is: those with power will always rule those without.

Guns are there to provide you with this false illusion of individual freedom, which smart people know you do not have.

The powerful give you the illusion of freedom, so that you will work harder for their profit.

Basically, owning a gun is saying you fell for that.

Don't believe me? Try doing something illegal, and let me know how much "freedom" you actually have.

Wide availability of weapons capable of killing large numbers of people means regular massacres by suicidal nuts. We must learn to accept this. A memorial to victims of the right to keep and bear arms would be appropriate. One like the Vietnam memorial, with stone slabs carved with names. Plenty of room should be provided for future expansion. The names of the shooters should not be displayed.

The right to keep and bear arms is now a fundamental part of American society, and that right has a price. The dead kids did their patriotic duty to die for the right to keep and bear arms. We must mourn them as heroes, bury them, and go on. The shooters, who rarely survive these incidents, we need not mourn.

McVeigh was also motivated by his fear that an oppresive government was going to take away his firearms. So he stood up to what he believed was an oppresive government and took them head on. He was incarcerated and killed for his beliefs. Funny how all those pro-gun people who trot out the "we need to defend ourselves agaisnt the government" revile Mcveigh rather than actually look up to him for doing exactly what they claim they need their guns for!

One step further, they should do the same as tobacco - print 'messages' on guns such as "My ding-dong is short".
